I don't think he'll want any of BYU's defense next year.

Won't matter. He isn't playing next season anyway, no?

Bingo. Can't play the season after you transfer unless you graduate or go to an FCS school I believe.

In addition, I'm not sure he's proven the ability to be an effective starter at the D-1 level.

This thread is not about Jake Heaps.

Glad we are catching him in his first game.
Conversely there is ZERO game film to review, outside of 2008-2009 Texas Tech where they broke every offensive record. Realize Leach only runs about 6-10 plays, so his offense is not particularly complicated for his team to execute. Installing the offense might not be too difficult for the Pirate and depite being overwhelmed as the coach, Paul Wulff was a pretty good recruiter and brought in some excellent talent.

Also isn't there a return game in Pullman in 2013? They will be scary that year, Halliday will be a Junior, and MQW will be a Senior and likely an All American candidate (he was Ted Miller's 1st team All PAC-12 this year, opposite Robert Woods).

2013 is shaping up to be one of the more difficult years in BYU's history AFAIK. Texas, GT, Notre Dame (probable?), WSU, Houston, and Boise(?).

                  • Not bad for year 2 of independence.

5 BCS opponents, including Notre Dame, ACC, and 3 Pac12 teams

2 MWC opponents in "rivalry" games (Boise State - probably ranked, Hawaii)

                    USU on conference weekend

                    3 WAC schedule fillers

                    1 FCS opponent

The Leach factor makes the game actually a little interesting. Otherwise, meh.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

I agree. And I'm not going to worry about a Washington State turn-around until we see it on the field. Even though I like Leach as a coach.

                          • Home schedule in 2012 isn't as vomit inducing. still pretty uninspiring, though...not a single marquee visitor...PAC 12 garbage...and a WAC also-ran, but it is a definite step in the right direction.

Road schedule....2 worthwhile road trips...Georgia Tech and Notre Dame. I don't consider Utah a "road trip" but that is one to hit. The rest is junk.

Overall, as mentioned, not a bad second year. For having to put much of this together on the fly, it is very respectable. However, next year will be year 2 of this experiment. We were told more or less than we could start seeing some home schedule improvements by year 3. Who is on the home docket for 2013? Texas for sure. Outside possibility that Utah will show up. Is the Ga Tech a home/home? That would be a nice home schedule.

Right now the scheduled 2013 home games are:

                              Texas
                              Georgia Tech
                              Boise State
