  • Texas has agreed to play UCLA at Cowboys' Stadium in 2014 (Nice... I will most likely get tickets.)

UCLA and Texas have agreed to play a spotlight game in Cowboys’ Stadium in 2014.

The game, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13, will be nationally televised. The Bruins have a game against Virginia schedule for that day, but the two schools will work out a change.

UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, in a blog posting to donors and boosters, said this week that UCLA had, “negotiated a deal that will feature the Bruins against a marquee opponent at Cowboys Stadium.”

UCLA and Texas just completed a home-and-home series. UCLA defeated Texas, 34-12, in Austin in 2010. Texas returned the favor this season, beating the Bruins, 49-20, in the Rose Bowl.
Of course, this raises the question who Texas is going to drop from their schedule. I am guessing Arkansas and not BYU given the SEC is most likely going to a nine game conference schedule and because Texas loves BYU.

Texas and UCLA seem to have been playing a lot lately.

            • This is very exciting. Our transfer from the WAC to the CUSA is nearly complete!

Why doesn't jefe just admit that his format sucks and make the switch to v-bulletin? how much more of v bulletin functionality can he swipe?

Yeah, that ECU powerhouse sure makes this independence desperation move/clusterf*/experiment awesome!

                  • Did that CBer really call EC a powerhouse and say it makes independence better and better?

I'm starting to think that Holmoe and the BOT are on a massive troll to see just how far they can push BYU fans before they stop sounding ridiculous.

Pretty darn far, apparently. I'm told that the Guiness Book of World Records is following the saga closely.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

                    • Just think, one more year of being in the WAC. Then a few years of being in CUSA. Next? I can only hope we will join the Sun Belt for a few years!

I've asked Webmonkey at Utefans the same question (they essentially have the same format at cougarboard) and he said it because the people prefer the old way. Probably because they have never used the vbulletin way IMO.

                        • EC is about what I would like to see as filler material. It's a team that I don't recall us ever playing, but not really very good competition. They're certainly better than the WAC, but not even close to being a marquee game.

If we could get 4 games against Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. type competition (2 away/2 home) and the rest Eastern Carolina types, I would be happy with independence. I'm still holding out hope we can get this type of schedule over the next few years.

                            A. Because his format is fine. Although it still needs to bump new replies to the top.

                            • I'm not sure what everyone expects, but having home and homes with Houston and Eastern Carolina isn't that bad -- in fact that home and home with Houston is looking pretty nice at this point.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
