    Army

It would have been nice to have Utah at the end of the season. Add Notre Dame. Force USU to play us in November. Maybe try to develop a Boise State rivarly game for the back half. Throw in Hawaii. That's a decent schedule.

We have to work harder at the placement of the games. I understand the difficulty in putting this together for next year, that's why I gave A for effort. But I hope bolstering the back half of the season is the highest priority in scheduling in the future.

You could probably get any of the service acadamys including Air Force later in the season.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Yet BSU was in the National Championship talk until the final seconds of the Nevada game.

BYU's schedule next season is BETTER than BSU's schedule this season or any other season. What is the problema?
Navy turf going into LES next summer I predict!

We couldn't in the next couple years. And AF is just as difficult as any other school to schedule, it seems.

Why do you keep bringing up boyzee state? I don't want to be boyzee state. My end game is not to just play bad teams and get to a bowl game. I want to see a good schedule year in and year out. That's more important to me right now and if we ever get into the Big 12, we will have both the good schedule and a chance at the BCS (even with a loss or two).

            • What part of being patient with the first two years of scheduling are people not understanding? This is not a surprise. Yet, people seem to be acting like this is all out of the blue, and we should have expected to have BCS teams all over 2011's schedule.
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

That's an easy question to answer: people are blubbering idiots.

As a good example of how difficult it is to put a schedule together on 3 months notice, Army is fully scheduled through 2018.

My pont is it's no big achievement to schedule yourself as early season one-off road games with the big teams. Even Utah State can do and does that. Any lame program can fill its schedule with road games against Texas, Nebraska, etc.
Your post presumes the goal for BYU as an institution, as it relates to this experiment, is to have a BCS football team.

What I am saying LiveCoug is that given the insane time crunch and the limited availability, BYU has put together a schedule that technically could put it in a position to be the National Championship picture if BYU goes undefeated. It could definitely go to a BCS bowl game if it were undefeated. So while the teams are not necessarily ideal, BYU is still playing for something very meaningful right out of the gate in a year that is basically written off as a transition period. Also, BYU fans have the chance to roadie to Texas and Ole Miss, two great destinations. That is better than most normal years, when we generally may be lucky to have 1 really interesting roadie destination.

I agree 100%. I'm giving Holmoe a pass for the first 2 years. I know that it will be tough to get a great schedule. I'm just wondering why you keep bringing up the BSU/Utah model. I don't want that model. I don't want to play a cupcake sched in the hopes of just making a BCS game. I want a nice balance of great teams, good teams and a couple bad teams. I think (if we are still indy in 5 years) we will eventually have that.

                          Fair enough.

My entire post was basically my way of announcing that from here on out I will refer to SoCalCoug as Puma de California del Sur.

I am with you. If I lived out of state and couldn't get to LES, then maybe I wouldn't mind if the schedule at home sucked.

I would rather play a Utah type schedule and end up 10-2 to 8-4 every year than play a BSU schedule, be 11-1 most years and once in a while play in a BCS game. I think someone told me BSU doesn't even sell out all their home games. We didn't either last year.

I can live with that. It sounds sexier.
