Why the fear? If we are the lone game, more will watch. Also, frees up Saturday's to watch better games all day.

Boise state became what it is using this exact formula...play on thurs or fri and play a POS schedule with one good team mixed in.

If BYU can figure out OSU and Texas, there is no reason to expect them to lose at all for the rest of that schedule.

    • There is something sad and desperate about this thread. I feel oppressed just to see the title. Then to see 3D citng Boise State as a model for anything makes my temples throb.

Why the beef with Boise State? Are they too tacky? I mean clearly they are symptomatic of the great unwashed from the lowbrow hinterlands, but don't you see the nexus of gauche and kitsch in the blue field and redneck fanbase? Surely you of all people can see the irony of reveling in the huckster charm of the ruffian success amongst the advantaged blue bloods of the most testosteroned sport in our testosteroned nation.

Surely it's not about football, but about cultural significance. Right?

Utah basically followed the same model....weak schedule, mix in a good game, run the table.

I'm not suggesting that boise is the template for byu's program, I'm responding to this angst about the upcoming schedule. People need to decide what they want...do they want to go to a bcs bowl? If so, then next seasons schedule is a perfect way to do that. Why all the gloom?

I enjoy a good Thursday matchup. I think they can be fun/great. My fear is that we will have 3-4 Thurs Fri HOME games a year. 1-2 is plenty.

              Agree.

I won't say I'm ecstatic abt it but I'm actually pretty damn pleased, i.e. more than just pretty pleased. Given the challenge of arranging a good schedule on short notice and the fact that we knew that 2011 was going to be the primary scheduling bitch, I think we've ended up with something that does everything we can hope for -

It's got more challenging matchups than the schedules Utah or BSU have played in their BCS runs (4 winnable BCS matchups with reps from the SEC, Big 12 and PAC) and a couple of other challenges and then a schedule we can win out against thereafter.

Our independent scheduling will start improving in 2012 but for 2011 this is solid.

If BYU plays 4 teams that finish the season ranked (like Utah did in '08), I would be flabbergasted. Hell, if you can match the 3 that Boise played in '06 I'd be moderately shocked.

Well hell - I think you got me there. I'd give Texas and OSU a fighting chance of finishing ranked next year, Utah and Ole Miss not so much.

It's a shame that Idaho St. didn't play hardball and get the Cougs in Pocatello for the game.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

                      • I don't care much about the home schedule, mostly because I am far removed from Provo now. But I do love that we'll be undefeated at home and that I will get to see every single one of those games.

Like a lot of things football, Utah took a model pioneered by BYU and made it better. BYU's orignial model was to play 12 bad or terrible teams, including a .500 team in a no account bowl. We've learned a lot in the past 25 years, like how to value winning week after week against bad and terrible teams.
