Until BYU came along with the honor code, the ultimate test of worthiness was holding a TR. Of course now it is just one step below being BYU worthy, but not bad anyway.

            • Article about the crazy new football stadium project planned in Las Vegas. UNLV is REALLY going to benefit from this, I would think.

More importantly, the article has a very interesting line about BYU. What do you guys think?

That's in line with the "LES South" reputation, I suppose. I assume it wouldn't replace a home game but, instead, would be like the TCU or WVU "neutral-site" games. If that's the case, and if it's against a decent team, I would be for it because, well, it's LES South.

                • I like it. It would be like a bowl game mid season. Instead of H-H-N always close to the other team, these would be much more BYU friendly crowds. Only negative is I hate Vegas.

Any thoughts on who the last team(s) will be?

                      • This is an interesting post from Shoganai on CB. I have no idea if he knows what he is talking about but this is interesting if true.

Looking at our future schedules there is one trend worth talking about. We have zero new games schedule with Pac-12 teams other than the helter skelter with Utah. Even Wazzu has put off our trip to Pullman pretty much indefinitely. This is a big deal. Pac-10 teams have been a cornerstone of our schedules for years. In the 10 seasons before independence, we played a total of 11 Pac-10 games against six different teams (not counting bowl games), and only had two seasons where we didn't play any. But, as of right now, there is nothing contracted and nothing being talked about. This is not by accident.

Larry Scott wants Utah to downplay and eventually kill the Holy War, and the trickle-down effect is that BYU is more or less blacklisted by the rest of the conference (i.e. it wouldn't play well politically for Arizona State to suddenly contract a four-game series with us while at the same time the commissioner is telling Utah to cut us loose).

A few years ago we'd just finished up a deal for the H:H series with USC (2003-2004) when UCLA's athletic director called. The jist of the conversation was, "Gosh, if you were looking for games down this way you should've given us a call too..." and we subsequently got the series with the Bruins for 2007-2008. Pac-10 ADs have always loved playing BYU. We sell more tickets than even most BCS non-conf. opponents they get, their rich, RV-driving boosters like the return trips to Provo, and the games are almost always on national TV in good time slots. With SOS about to become a major part of the post-season, it would only make sense that we'd have more interest than ever before from these ADs. But, there is nothing. Larry Scott has his reasons, and they are good ones from his perspective, but it's clearly hurting our scheduling prospects.

I suppose it's possible that the P12 is doing something like this, but you also have to keep in mind that the P12 teams suddenly have one less available game given the new 9 game conference schedule, that for a good period of time in there they thought they were going to have 2 fewer games due to the now-defunct P12-B1G agreement, and that because these additional games were against good opponents, games against quality teams like BYU are the most likely to get squeezed out.

                          • It's also worth noting that the WSU-BYU contract was entered in December 2011, well after the P12 would have blacklisted BYU as a possible opponent. Furthermore, when the 2013 game was pushed back, WSU wanted to play the game in 2016, but BYU insisted on 2019, so it was BYU, not WSU or the P12 pushing that game back so far.
