In Holmoe's defense, this kind of stuff is very common in game negotiations. You see it all the time when Team A goes to Team B and says, how about we play a game on a given date. Team B replies, that sounds great, but we have a game with Team C scheduled that week. Let me see what I can do. A week later, Team B writes back to Team A and either says Team C can move the game or Team C can't move the game. It happens all the time.

Desperate? I don't think so. I think that he just blew off OSU and told them: Hey - I know I said we wanted to play. And you said that maybe we could that week. But it looks like it isn't going to work out for us. But thanks anyway.

Just a thought - but when you ask a hot girl on a date and you tell her never mind - how many times do you think you can tell her never mind and still have her go out with you in the future? So I took this more as Tom trying to nicely say "no thanks" while not burning any bridges.

But that does beg the question - if the choice is between playing OSU or Utah, did BYU seriously choose Utah? Really? Utah has already shown that the relationship means squat to them, why should BYU value it?

So, 1 and done with tOSU versus trying to engender some good will and continue the Utah series, I would probably choose to try to get 2 games from Utah. It's not like tOSU is going to come out here.

I think Utah is waffling because they've been so reluctant to sign a several year agreement, and I'd choose tOSU if they would come to our place. But, we all know they won't and that's not happening. There's too many directional schools that they'll happily pay to come to the Shoe and they don't need a game against BYU that is of no benefit to them outside of maybe a slight OOC schedulign boost versus who they usually play.

Frankly, it would be easy to schedule because those teams are always looking for home games and it would also further the greater mission of BYU football, which is to bring attention to the school and the Church. Bonus for BYU alum all over the country that can road trip to see the team play.
