Bear Minimum: The Official BYU v. Stanford Game thread

Given that Bear spent about the minimum amount of time you could with a team before transferring, thread title seems fitting.

So Stanford lost to Hawaii on August 23rd 23-20 and then had a bye week this past week.

    Maybe Hawaii is good?

(Checks Box Score... sees Hawaii loses to Arizona 40-6)

Looking at the Stanford / Hawaii game, box score would indicate Stanford's passing offense is not that great. 15-30 for 109 yards (with 39 coming on one play). They did run the ball for almost 200 yards, but still not overly impressive.

I do think it'll be a much better test for Bear than last week. I think we should be able to run the ball – maybe not 450 yards at 10 yards a carry like last week – but I do think LJ will see a similar yardage total on Saturday. And ultimately, I don't think the Stanford offense will be able to get into a rhythm against our defense, so no matter what happens offensively for us, we should be in a good spot.

I think there are a lot of mistakes we'll need to clean up following this game – but will still be a game that isn't in doubt in the second half.

Stanford's QB was so bad against Hawaii that I half expect them to start Rizk against BYU. Rizk played really well against BYU last year when he came in late as the 3rd stringer for UCF. It was garbage time, but I remember he provided enough of a spark that the ones had to come back in.

BYU is a running team this year. I predicted after the open practice that they’d be 60/40 run pass against P4 teams. I thought they might open it up a little more against PSU, but it clearly wasn’t needed and wasn’t humane in the second half. My guess is BYU will pound the ball against the school with my least favorite band in all the land and play action effectively. Comfortable win on Saturday and Bear is glad he transferred.

I can get on board with that prediction.

I hope that BYU wins until they play Utah. So in that spirit.. I hope Stanford loses to BYU 21-14.

What I'm hearing is that BYU will call off the dogs and start passing, so as not to run up the score.

Stanford Football Appears to Have Made a Decision at QB for Week 2 at BYU

Looks like they're sticking with Gulbranson for now. I'm going to predict he does not finish the game.

Too early for a roll call?

I will be in Section 49 Row 19, southwest corner of the stadium. 20 rows up or so.

We’ll be there. It will be the first time my daughters have been inside LES and my first game there since shortly after graduating. Section 108.
