  • Good solid win Utes.....

Whittingham and his staff are very good at what they do. Despite some errors and efforts to give the game away, the Utes prevailed. Great atmosphere as well with the noise, the MUSS and the NEZ rowdies. I was really impressed with the rebuilt defense and the consistent Whittingham model of doing exactly what you need to win.

My Ute insider assured me that while Brian Blechen was going to be good, he sucked against the pass and would get torched this year. Uhhhhhh, good call on that one! It makes me chuckle about all the talk about highly touted true freshman one that nobody knew much about is likely to have the biggest impact all season, and certainly in week one.

    Well done!

The radio honks last night were saying that the coaches were telling them that Blechen has a ton of upside. A lot of comparisons to Weddle in terms of understanding the defense and competetiveness.

I hadn't heard any of that until last night, so who knows.

It was a very good win and signs of good things to come. The Utes will be a dangerous team this year, but I think most of us (even us cougs that are honest with ourselves) already knew that. I am not saying the Utes will be TCU good, but they will be very very solid as Wynn gets more and more comfortable and as the secondary gets more reps.

I watched most of the game last night on 2X speed, but after the game Whitt was talking about a huge error in judgement that he made that apparently almost cost them the game. What exactly was he referring to?

He was referring to icing the kicker on his second attempt to tie the game at the end of regulation. The kicker missed and then made it on his third attempt. While the result was a mistake, I don't think it was a strategic mistake.

                I was impressed, Utes.

I feel about the Ute defense going in this year the same way I feel about the BYU offense. Sure there were/are question marks but when was the last time either was bad under the current regime? Right, never. So I have been assuming our defense would be fine. I assume your offense will be fine too for the same reason. Saturday may prove me wrong but I doubt it.

The U played very well last night. They are a very good team. Was Wynn hurt last night? He seemed to have lost a bit of arm most of the second half.

I wasn't impressed with either team-- they looked very green. Not to be a dick. Wynn is scary back there when he scrambles. He looks like one good hit and he's looking at a shattered torso. The D looked pretty fast up front though, despite seemingly blowing coverage more than usual. Asiata also looks solid.

Notice a difference in Jordan Wynn from the first half to the second half of Utah's 27-24 overtime win over Pitt? It looks like he injured his sprained his thumb on his throwing hand.

Dirk Facer of the Deseret News reports that "he's considered day-to-day as the Utes look ahead to their final Mountain West Conference opener Sept. 11 against UNLV at Rice-Eccles Stadium".

In the first half, Wynn was on fire, completing 15 of 20 for 161 yards and two touchdowns. In the third quarter, Wynn was just 3 of 11.

No I'm sure this is incorrect. It's that he completely comes undone by pressure.

I thought Utah looked very good. Their offense was effective against a good D. Their O-line was good against a very good Dline. Their corners showed the ability to handle a very talented receiving corp and their Dline was great. Color me impressed.
