Im still counting USC im 2003 amd 2004 so really ONLY 21 years. Your point is a good one though. Outside of a handful of schools the championship has always been dominated by the central and Eastern time zones. In the past 50 years the mountain and pacific time zones have combined for 4.0 total national championships (counting final split polls as 1/2)

Actually, 2003 wasn't vacated so you are right. But yeah, this is another disadvantage the Big-XII has to deal with given that 5 teams live in the mountain time zone. The amount of run the ACC is getting from Miami in conversations about the strength of the ACC and Big-XII from some of the national talking heads is frustrating. It doesn't matter how deep your conference, it's about how strong the team at the top is.

Did you watch that interview with former LSU and USC coach Ed Orgeron where he basically admitted that NIL-type payments (smaller of course) were happening all over the SEC and Big 10, etc., its just NOW that they are out in the open?

So the whining is based on the recently leveled playing field. Alabama and others are upset that they now have to compete, whereas they used to just be able to pay the players and have an advantage.
