  • I don't know how true this is, but I saw on FB that Sitake's wife said that the week leading up to the UCF game was the most stressed that he had been and that he had the entire weight of the football team on his shoulders. So he was super stressed about facing a team with a losing record with the CCG already locked up? The Penn St job is gonna be a lot more stressful. Lose 3 games in a season and you're fired. Sitake would have to have consecutive losing seasons at BYU for his bosses to even entertain that discussion (or have a major HC violation/scandal).

It would be hard to turn down $10M a year, but he has some pretty good job security right now.

    • Penn State fired someone who resurrected the program and went 10-3 last year. In 11 complete seasons, he had six seasons of 10 wins or more.

Other than the payday -- a big reason-- I'm not sure why he takes that job.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

      • Losing Kilani would be huge from a recruiting standpoint. These teams the past couple years have been far deeper than teams of the past. I think Jay Hill is a great coach, but I don't know if he'll be able to recruit like Sitake.

I don't want nor believe Sitake is leaving BYU, but I tend to believe there are resources in place for a HC to be successful at BYU in the Big 12. If Sitake leaves even if he takes players, assistants and who knows else with him there is enough for BYU to consistently be successful with somebody else. In my life I have seen 4 different BYU coaches win double digit games-3 of them repeatedly.

Saying that as I read what I wrote I just don't see his posse wanting to join him in the other Happy Valley. It just defies reason IMO. But I have been wrong before so y'all should take no comfort in what I say or think.

          • I say this will all respect to Kalani, but if I were a Penn State fan and found out they hired the coach from BYU, it would be hard not to be disappointed.

I'm reminded of this any time I read the comments under a post about a Kentucky basketball loss.

I imagine that Florida fans felt the same way when they hired Urban Meyer. Worked out okay for them.

Unfortunately, BYUs hiring pool is extremely limited. If for whatever reason we can't get Jay Hill, we could have a problem

                    Kalani is no Urban.

I don't think that is a great comparison.

UM had been a head coach for 4 years at 2 schools and never had less than 8 wins (His first year), In fact he improved each year- 8, 9, 10, 12.

His stock was skyrocketing, and I believe most UF fans were thrilled to beat out Notre Dame for him.

KS on the other hand is a well-established coach who has had mixed success. He has built something special here in Provo, but it has had some rocky times and losing seasons. They won't put up with that in College Station.

But it appears the talks have progressed enough, staff considerations have been discussed.

I can confirm that there are no familial constraints on his candidacy for a head coaching gig.

Kalani was not part of my comment. Rather, the the potential similarity in situations between 2008 Utah and 2025 BYU.

Urban Meyer is a trouser snake.

I heard that Penn State's top priority for its new head coach is to develop a Football Program based on LOVE more than anything else. Kalani can do a lot more good there under those conditions than anywhere else.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
