Sure, they aren't dominant, and they trailed Louisiana-Lafayette with 3 minutes left in the game last week, but in terms of resume, they're as deserving or more than comparable teams.
The winner of the game next week will probably have an argument. Florida State got hammered for their loss, but some of these other teams didn't seem to get hammered as much for their loss. It was a bad loss, but there's a few teams with some bad losses this year.

I'm sure TV wants Notre Dame and Bama to draw huge ratings.

I've just watched Florida a few times this year and I don't see anything that seems all that special.

At this point I really want to avoid an all SEC championship game.

I think you better put on your Coach/MarkGrace Notre Dame hat and cheer your bottom off next week against the Trojans then. If USC hasn't quit on the year and beats ND, the BCS game will be SEC Champ Game winner vs. Florida.

      • I am pulling for ND.

It sounds like Barkley is out. I think Notre Dame will roll.

        • The thought of an all SEC BCS title game again makes me ill. There are only two teams that can ensure this doesn't happen. The easiest way is for ND to beat USC.

Oregon is really the only viable team to prevent this if ND loses. In this case Oregon would have to beat the Beavs and Florida would have to lose to Florida State. There might be a slim chance even if Florida beat Florida State. UCLA would have to beat Stanford to allow Oregon to get to the PAC title game and then beat UCLA. This might be enough to push Oregon ahead of Florida (especially with the voters who would favor a conference champion to Florida).

I guess the extreme long shot to prevent this would be KState if ND, Oregon, and Florida all lose. Still I think the biggest key is Florida has to lose to Florida State.

There is no hope in Duck-ville. I'm ready to watch the 10 AM kick off that comes along with the Sun Bowl.

Whoever wins round 1, wins both games. I've held that belief since August.

                    • Saw that Scott Frost was promoted to OC under new Oregon HC Mark Helfrich. Gives me more reason to cheer for Oregon in the PAC-12 despite their neon uniforms. Nebraska tried to pry Frost away from Oregon a couple of years ago but the rumor was that Frost would only make the move if given the position of OC (Nebraska HC Bo Pelini had already taggged Tim Beck as his new OC). Glad to see he was rewarded with the OC promotion by staying at Oregon.

Perhaps Scott Frost will return home to Nebraska someday as OC or HC. Always thought Tom Rathman would do that as well but it hasn't taken place...yet.

It would have been a huge jump, but I would have been happy had they named Frost HC. He is an awesome coach and recruiter. I think the sky is the limit for him.

I'll have to find another Duck thread to bump, can't bump the title defense one anymore.

                        • Sorry Husky..

“This is a huge get for the Buckeyes, absolutely, and one reason is because it gives OSU three of the top 13 players from one of the talent-rich states in the country,” along with linebacker Mike Mitchell of Plano and quarterback T.J. Barrett of Wichita Falls, analyst Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts said. “Plus, what, three weeks ago, Wilson was going to Oregon.”

Wilson remembered it well. Kelly visited him at DeSoto High School on a Tuesday, and the next day Wilson heard from friends — not from Oregon coaches — that Kelly had gone to the Eagles.

“To me, it was wrong, it kind of hurt me a little, but I’m over it now,” Wilson said.

This story has been on the local news of late. I think local media wanted to make Oregon look bad so that Texas schools (namely UT and A&M) may have an easier go at keeping Lonestar prep talent in Texas. Folks here are used to the Sooners raiding Texas and in the distant past, schools like Michigan but think it's been a little while since the Buckeyes have gone through the door. Another example of Meyer's recruiting prowess.

It reminds me of a story I heard a long time ago during a TV broadcast of a college football game...

Michigan coach: I'm sick and tired of you going into my recruiting territory trying to lure the best recruits away...
Iowa coach: I don't know what you're talking about, I haven't even been to Michigan of late.
Michigan coach: I'm not talking about Michigan, I'm talking about Texas....

It will be interesting to see how things go with Urban. He is a "National" recruiter.. He'll get the Ohio guys, but his expectations are far different then Tressel. Tressel, had publicly stated that he wanted to ensure he got the top players in Ohio every year and that was his goal. Didn't recruit as hard outside the state, but did get some players as well. But not top notch players..

I like the idea of hijacking a Ducks thread to discuss recruiting...
Anyway, it's interesting to watch. Historically, it's has been difficult for Big Ten programs to recruit Texas. Why would a Dallas prep star choose a Big Ten school over OU, UT, or A&M that are all solid programs and within a few hours drive? Nebraska has had to recruit nationally for a long, long time. Most years they don't beat out OU and UT for Texas players they want but will often get a 3-star that's really a 4-star or better. When UT is struggling, Nebraska seems to have done better at getting top Texas talent. Now that Nebraska is in the Big Ten, Bo Pelini is going after Ohio players which seems questionable to me. But that's the man's home turf and maybe he'll be able to edge out OSU and Michigan for a few players. Meanwhile, Meyer is recruiting Texas heavily along with everyone else. Will be interesting to see. If a Texas kid can be talked into going to Columbus to school, Lincoln is not at all improbable.
