A terrible realization about BYU

Oh, we've been at or above your level for some time. The last two months just makes it oh-so obvious to everyone.

It was becoming a little less obvious 3 of the last 4 years. Thanks for clearing it up for everyone.

A couple of thoughts:

(1) I think it is clear Utah leaving the MWC has precipitated much of BYU's current movement.

(2) I think it is equally clear that the reason is not what Utah fans, as a population, believe.

This is not about BYU feeling like they have to keep up. This is about the tie that kept BYU in the MWC being severed. BYU and Utah have voted as a block and worked as a team for years. Plans were in place for BYU and Utah to continue to work together as a team. Those plans were disrupted by Utah going to the Pac-10. Now that the tie to the MWC is severed, BYU has had to start looking for their own best interest without concern for anyone else and that has resulted in the current exploration of independence and the continued discussions with the Big XII. This isn't about BYU jealousy or desire to play catchup. Truthfully, an independent BYU will make more profit over the next 5 years than a Pac-12 Utah. This is about BYU no longer feeling tied to the MWC and its poor payouts. The MWC has been an anchor around the necks of BYU, Utah, and TCU because the bottom tier schools don't care to make any effort.

i think he is actually talking about the games in the 20's where byu didn't field a team and utah played provo high. i think they were on byu's level then. other than the 30 year gap between 1970 and 2002, y'all have definitely been on byu's level!

I'm also glad that Utah rode the coattails of BYU over the last 30 years to get to where they are....makes me sleep better at night.

I'm glad the Utes won't ever be in a conference with BYU again. BYU is someone else's problem, forever. I wonder how many other people are feeling that way today?

Exactly because BYU just started building this multi-million dollar broadcast facility this past June when they heard Utah was going to the Pac-10, they also just recently bought a 50 million dollar HD truck none of this was in the works until Utah got that Pac-10 invite. We can not stand that Utah is going to the Pac-10 so lets go out and blow hundreds of millions just to keep up with a team who has a smaller fan base, less tradition and dick head fans.

I think its clear that we wouldn't be going anywhere if Utah were still in the MWC. But I don't think the potential move to independence has anything to do with an attempt to one-up the Utes or even just keep from losing ground .

Nor did I suggest that...and I'm not saying that you said that I said that she said that I suggested it either.
