The blame should begin and end with the university presidents.Originally posted by Applejack View Post

Correct. They have rebranded the game reduction efforts to mean fewer plays because all of their efforts since the play clock changes many years ago have never reduced the overall duration of broadcasts; the rule changes have only replaced broadcast time with commercial time. Last year college games had on average 25 more plays than NFL games. So at least this new rebranding makes sense where the old effort to "reduce game length" was always fake.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostI read somewhere that the new clock rules were supposed to result in 7 fewer plays for each team, on average, and the ostensible reason was for "safety" - to reduce wear and tear and concussion risk and all that kind of stuff.
By the way, one sure fire way to reduce broadcast lengths substantially (if they cared about that) would be to ditch the cumbersome and disruptive NCAA replay review model in favor of something closer to what the NFL does. But excessive college reviews are prime commercial time so they will never do that.

Tell me now Larry Scott was responsible for the P12 presidents turning down the $30M offer one year ago - and countering for $50M? Because that was the true nail in the coffin.Originally posted by Applejack View Post
yes, they enabled him. But once the guy got the richest tv deal ever for a conference he (rightly) had a lot of breathing room from he presidents. And he took it and cashed in."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

For real. If the Pac 12 presidents couldn't recognize independently that the record deal larry Scott got the first time around was more a function of general contract explosion/inflation than the inherent value of Pac 12 athletics, it's more evidence of the general mutual fart-sniffing attitude that permeated that conference until its dying breath.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Let’s go Duke!"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
