Agreed. Even against the November nobodies, we had almost no push or penetration the last few years. I have no idea how good/bad shsu’s o line is, but I don’t care. Tonight, I’m going to assume it’s a solid unit and we shut them out. I’m also assuming that ARod kept the play calling vanilla.Originally posted by USUC View PostI'm super depressed about the offense but I think the defense has made some improvement. Let's hope Slovis can put it together.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Positives:
The defense. Hard to be worse than they were last year. No where to go, but up. And we'll play much better offenses than Sam Houston. But, I liked what I saw. Run defense was good. Coverage was mostly good. Only gripe would be more pressure on the QB would have been nice. But, the energy and result was awesome.
Punting. Yeah, we sure showcased him tonight, didn't we?
LJ Martin, the true freshman, looks like the real deal. And he'll only get better!
Negatives:
Looks like we got the Pittsburg Slovis. Cue all the excuses about first game, all the transers, blah blah. How come he doesn't get set when he throws? I expected better mechanics, decision making, and accuracy for someone with his level of experience.
OL. This was my least worried offensive unit coming into the season, but now I'm worried. Slovis wasn't good, but he also wasn't given a lot of time. And Sam Houston got pressure just with their DLine. Even Martin didn't exactly have huge holes to run through. Very disappointed with this group.
Fake punt and early second half TO. Unfortunatley, I'm not surprised. Sigh.
Final Thoughts
Would you prefer a 14-0 win or 28-14? The shutout was awesome. Last season we wouldn't have shut out Sam Houston. Last season, the least amount of points that we allowed was 20 against Baylor. I'll take it. Hoping that this was just a vanilla offense to not give anything away...for Southern Utah? Or Arkansas? So does that mean we see another enept offensive display next week? Please no! Well, we get a win and we give our team a lot to work on. Hopefully, there's a lot of fire for guys (and coaches) to show that they can play better next week."Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react." - Charles Swindoll

Your second point sort of negates the first. QB performance starts with the offensive line. They weren't good which = QB isn't good. Slovis faced way too much pressure and it showed.Originally posted by byufan4ever View Post

My jury is still out on Slovis. Missing two top receivers didn't help.
