If our yearly schedule looks something like this as an Independent, then I will be a fan:

    USU
    UU
    UNR
    Fresno
    NMSU
    ND
    Army
    Navy
    Oklahoma State
    UCLA
    Boston College
    Purdue

Add to that a tie in with the Holiday Bowl and a BCS game chance, I could dig that.

    I'm scared.

On the other hand - this would be HUGE for the WAC and they might just be desperate enough to make concessions. We'll see.
I could see BYU trying to get the WAC tourny in SLC at the ESA

Didn't ignore--I discounted. ND can get just about any school to work a game into their schedule at ND's convenience. I don't think it gets significantly easier for BYU suddenly, due to the need to fill an entire schedule.

FTR, I'd rather play Wyoming than Duke. I will, however, concede that there are people out there that would like to play Hawaii. From a football perspective, though, that's not a great pickup.
Duke(and maryland) are examples of what types of teams we could schedule. Take equivalent regional teams as substitutes.

And remember...this is navy. There's no reason to assume we couldn't do better
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Why on earth would Okie STate, UCLA, BC and Purdue play us in November? Someone needs a better answer than ESPN.

Sounds like your going to get 2 for 1s!

who do we play in November now? Utah is the only decent opponent, typically. That will still be true.
              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

That was just a list of teams, not necessarily the order we would play them...

It is unlikely, but that's what it would take for me to be excited.

Teams I'd love to see BYU schedule and that are entirely within the realm of possible:

                  Maryland
                  Navy
                  Duke
                  UNC
                  NC State
                  Wake Forest
                  Virginia
                  Virginia Tech
                  Pittsburgh
                  West Virginia
                  Marshall
                  Rutgers
                  Army
                  Cincinnati
                  Miami OH

I'd be very happy if we could schedule half of those teams for home/away games over the next five years.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Since I was a kid I have always wanted to see us play Michigan State. I have no idea why, but I always thought that would be really cool.

Pure speculation, but I think BYU intentionally only scheduled one east-coast game each year. That's a lot of travel.

EDIT: I'm not supposing you're suggesting we schedule all those in the same year.

we all have to look out for our own best interests.

I don't think it would be feasible to schedule all of them, but if they got two of those teams to play them annually and then alternated so that every year they were coming back east then that would be awesome.

truth is, I think independence will actually make it possible to have more games on the east coast.

                              • Another problem with BYU scheduling will be the ability to make up for an early loss.

Playing the MWC, BYU usually faced a ranked TCU or Utah team in late October/early November. This provided an opportunity to make up for an early loss and move back up the polls.

Last year for example. A tough loss to FSU dropped them 12 spots in the polls. A win against TCU would have put them right back in the top 10.

How is this going to happen when they're playing service academies and WAC teams in October/November?
