College football is like European soccer. If you you're not spending like Man City and Real Madrid, then you're just not going to be able to compete. We are going to be the Vanderbilt of the B12. I feel like we are setting up our head coach for failure if we don't back him up with the resources that our peers have. If our administration is not willing to do that, then why did we make the move to the B12?

Our non-revenue sports look good, but you generally don't need to dump a lot of $$ in those to be successful. Basketball is looking good so far, fingers crossed. But, football is a money sport where money needs to be spent in order to win and I just don't see us being competitive in the next 10 years. Now, having said all that, look at Texas A&M. You gotta spend that money wisely!
BYU hasn't been making as much money as their new Big 12 brethren, so it would be tough for them to spend as much as their new league mates, given their proclivity for being in the black. They are still not pulling in a full revenue share yet.

Reluctance to spend money is not BYU's biggest liniting factor. The biggest issue is with talent acquisition. And arguably the biggest obstacles to acquiring talent are 1) the honor code and 2) NIL deficiencies. It's possible to turn NIL into a net positive, but the honor code will continue to limit BYU.

BYU will still compete for conference championships, they just won't be in the mix nearly as often as they were in the WAC/MWC days. And, given their more difficult schedules, losing seasons will also be more common.

I don't know if Sitake is a bad coach, but I know it's insane to think that BYU should be competing for conference titles when our budget and resources are miniscule compared to legacy P5 teams. Let's see when these catch up in 3 years or so. I don't suspect much more than 6 wins next year either.
We knew sitake was bad 2 years in. No one is talking about conference titles. Not being blown out by some pretty bad or average teams would be a start

Stake has no positive influence or input on any phase of the game , threats the team like a hang out and have fun party and cant recruit worth crap. Its time . I mean look at our QB room.

Haha. You again saying this again after a loss. So predictable. It's not controversial, but it is dumb. Two questions for you and the fire kalani crowd if you dare to answer actual reality instead of just flinging your own feces around:

          1. What was your expected record in our first season in the Big 12 and did we underperform those expectations?

          2. If you want to fire Kalani please give me a list of potential replacements that would want the job, would be an acceptable hire to BYU, and would be potentially better than KS.

I get as frustrated with some of Kalani's tendencies and decisions as anyone and the depth absolutely has to get better. But your complaining always fails to recognize the overlapping space of the Venn Diagram in (2) above is extremely small and sometimes non existent.

Also, the process needs to play itself out. The fire Kalani crowd is working on as much emotion as "evidence" from their own eyes. In addition to the things you mentioned above, you can't fire the guy in year one of a transition when he has had recent success. The type of coach BYU wants and needs to navigate the institutional peculiarities isn't going to be reassured that they will be given the time to turn things around.

            • I actually love that the idiots who thought BYU Football was B12 ready are melting down. They deserve that.

BYU sports will be fine. BYU footballs long term prognosis is probably comparable to ASU football’s historical performance (and hopefully a little better). Some good years, and every 15 years, a great year, with missing bowl games scattered throughout. And I’m okay with that. I don’t cheer for BYU because they’re world beaters. I just love the program. I’ve tried following my law school’s team, and it does nothing for me. When I moved to Texas, I tried adopting UT (Colt McCoy years), and meh….

He is terrible. That was embarrassing to watch.

                • Grimes is out at Baylor. Would love to have him back to shape up our OL.

                  • I'm not ready to throw Retzlaff to the wolves yet. The cold and drizzle definitely affected his ability to grip the ball, but no doubt that AROD will be surfing the transfer portal for a QB in the offseason.

Same. But homey will probably be able to get paid more AND drink beer somewhere else.

Edit: Mateo's wife is from Utah. I wonder how successful he'd be after cutting Grimes' apron strings...

The Football Babe on Twitter, who bats somewhere around .500 in his/her predictions, claims BYU and Grimes have been talking "for weeks." Fingers crossed.

                      • I could understand the push to fire Kalani if the team had quit on him. I’d be considering jumping on that bandwagon in that case. It has been pretty obvious that they didn’t these last two games.

I think some incremental changes can make a big difference improving things. Some depth and improvement is some areas will get us competitive in the league.

                        • BYU came close to beating Kansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. How much needs to be fixed to change coming close to being more consistent and winning those games? Eliminate a few turnovers and all of a sudden we've got a winning season with some pretty decent wins.

Should have beat the Oklahomas and probably should have lost to Tech and Arkansas. So a wash and we are still at 5 wins...which if everyone is honest is a decent start to being in the Big 12. The low point was definitely getting blown out of the stadium by west Virginia and Iowa State. That should not happen. But regrouping and nearly getting the upsets these past 2 weeks made me feel a bit better.

I'm not blind. There is a lot of work to do. But given the realities of our coaching pool and this transition to the Power 5 we are several more blowout non-competive losses from serious discussion of firing our coach.

                              • I would love Grimes back as well but how would that make sense to him? He failed at his first go as an OC. So he either starts over again as an O line coach or drops to G5 and tries the OC again. If he decides to go the O line route, he can land a job at a P2 program. The mo ey will be good and he will be sought after. BYU makes no sense for him.
