2023 BYU Football:The First Year of The Quorum of the BIG12

Hey, I'm new here, but I thought that I'd just jump right in with what are everyone's predictions with how this first season in the Big 12 will go? Here are mine!

Here are my Floor / Ceiling / Most Likely predictions for this season:

I know Kansas has historically been the doormat of the B12, but this is supposed to be their peak season so they shouldn't be underestimated.

What do you say?

Kansas has a really good QB when he is not hurt. We unfortunately get them early but my Jayhawk buddy at work tells me he has been hurt during fall camp.

I agree that the floor on the first two games better be a win, but I don't think the floor should exclude a loss for any other opponent.

Im guessing the defense is going to take a bit to see improvement. The D line is unproven and the safety position is paper thin. It'll take a few games for personnel adjustments to be figured out. Cincinnati will be the game that determines bowl eligibility.

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels continues to experience back tightness, coach Lance Leipold said at Wednesday’s Kansas football media day, two weeks and two days out of the Sept. 1 season-opener against Missouri State. A week ago Monday, Aug. 7, Daniels was present at practice but didn’t take any reps. He continues to be limited as of Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Last season, Daniels missed missed four games due to a shoulder injury suffered in a 38-31 loss to TCU. He was also limited some during spring ball.

Yeah, I'd say that's huge if he's injured. Kansas having a "peak" year really depends on them taking advantage of the current crop of players before they are gone as most expect them to go back to being the bottom dwellers of the Big 12 when their key players graduate or leave.

We should not be losing to Texas Tech and West Virginia. If we do, that's on the coaches. Just sayin.

Or a win. BYU has been known to steal a win every now and then. But you can't just say the floor is 0-12 and the ceiling in 12-0, so I'm not sure floor and ceiling are the right words, but their meaning approach the right words.

Texas Tech is supposed to be legit this year. Many have them as the dark horse to win the conference. Although I don't think they will, this is most likely a tough out. I'd swap out Tech for Iowa state given their off the field issues.

Fair enough. My main point with 4-8 being our floor is that is the lowest acceptable record for me and even then I won't really be happy. 4 wins and Kilani's seat should definitely be warm. Less than 4 wins and he's on the hot seat for sure.

Exactly. I could put percentages by each team for what I think our chances are of beating them. West Virginia we should have an 85%+ chance to beat, IMO. That would be a terrible loss. Could we steal a win against Texas? Yes, but it looks highly unlikely. Although I did watch some Taysom Hill vs Texas highlights last night, so LETS GO!

I certainly wouldn't be happy with a 4-8 record, but I don't see that as the worst possible result, which is what I thought you meant by the floor. ESPN's Football Power Index is projecting a final record of 5.1-6.9, so dipping below 4-8 doesn't really seem that unlikely. Of course, I'm brimming with hope, so I'm getting ready to book tickets to the CFP.
