I'm too old to have young kids who wake me up early after a night like that. What a game. Atmosphere reminded me of Utah last year. Our student section is incredible. So much better than when I was in school.
Game went exactly the opposite of what I expected. I thought our OL would control and we would put up points but our DL would get pushed around and we would struggle to score enough to win. I told my brother before the game that 30 points would win; technically I was correct but I got the flow of the game all wrong. Can't say enough about how great the defense was. 250 total yards in regulation for that offense, just amazing. Offense was frustrating at times but they took care of the ball which is the most important in a game like that.
Really only two things on offense upset me: 1. Clock management at the end of regulation. We should have been kicking the game winning field goal attempt with under 10 seconds left and zero time outs for baylor. WTF was the two throwaways for? In the end Baylor knelt down so it didn't matter but you should never leave any chance in a situation like that. 2. Jump ball to Rex on the 2 point try in double overtime from 1.5 yards out after tbe penalty. I get that OL wasn't getting a good push and we had less than 100 yards rushing on the night but it's 1.5 yards. Just go under center with a heavy set and get the 2. I'm much more content missing the try that way than what we did.
But the above is nitpicking. Such a great night overall. On to Eugene!Last edited by Omaha 680; 09-11-2022, 11:05 AM.

Was the 1979 Holiday Bowl going through anyone's mind last night (where BYU's kicker missed a chip shot FG with no time left that would have won the game and completed a perfect season for BYU (I think Lee Corso may have mentioned this)?
I had the same feeling, TWICE!, last night. But I loved the scene after the game ended, and as fans streamed onto the field, of Hall embracing Oldroyd whose face was covered with tears. What a HUGE relief that had to have been for Jake, and how smart/awesome is Hall for giving his kicker such support. Hopefully that will help a little in future clutch situations. We'll likely need him.

Was not thinking about that Holiday Bowl disaster, but was very moved by Jaren's embrace of Jake. What an awersome person and so aware in the moment. That is a rare quality.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostWas the 1979 Holiday Bowl going through anyone's mind last night (where BYU's kicker missed a chip shot FG with no time left that would have won the game and completed a perfect season for BYU (I think Lee Corso may have mentioned this)?

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

My uncle is that kicker. Brent Johnson. I don’t think he ever fully forgave the fan base for how he was treated after the game. His grandson is a beast o-lime commit, so it appears time heals all wounds.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostWas the 1979 Holiday Bowl going through anyone's mind last night (where BYU's kicker missed a chip shot FG with no time left that would have won the game and completed a perfect season for BYU (I think Lee Corso may have mentioned this)?

Didn't Lavell also throw him under the bus? Even Saints fall short at least once.Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post
