  • 2022 College Football Thread

We are days away from my favorite time of the year . Time for a new thread.

This belongs in the Members of TCoJCoLDS thread, but I'm sure there are some like me who have been avoiding it recently. If you have not yet watched the Manti Teo documentary on Netflix, I highly recommend you do. I had forgotten/conflated a lot of the Manti-Lennay-Roniah story. In my mind Manti was somewhat complicit in the deception. Nothing could be further from the truth. The kid was 100% the victim of pretty cruel hoax. Teo comes across amazing in his interviews- open, honest, and sincere. Roniah (sorry I don't recall what her preferred name is now) is fascinating. She takes very little accountability for what she (he) did. I also found it interesting only one ND official agreed to speak on camera. I'm not surprised Brian Kelly didn't - that would require him to think of someone other than himself.

The most infuriating thing about this was Naya(?) saying she felt bad but doesn't regret it because it was an important part of her own self discovery. She made him a laughing stock, cost him millions in the draft, and made him a head case that most certainly hurt his NFL potential. She sucks.

Exactly. I'm wasn't surprised she was willing to talk on camera - everything seems to be about herself. I am surprised the documentarian was as nice, in his edits, as he was.

I think talking about a college football player who was catfished in 2012 is a great way to start a 2022 CFB thread.

Use your semipotent admin powers for good and change the title of this thread to whichever Manti Teo Catfish word combo you like the best. I agree this thread should be reserved for talking about things like Utah losing in the swamp, yet still somehow claiming it was a victory.

I’m going to be in Logan this weekend. Considering going to the game up there against UConn. I can almost feel the football vibe in the air

Watching UConn @ Utah State. The announcer breathlessly said at the close of the 1st quarter:

"UConn has not led any team by more than 10 points at the end of the first quarter since 2015!"

He said this because UConn is up 14 - 0 on the Ags

Won't last long, but USU's run defence has been horrendous.

We watched the Manti Te'o doc this week. Everyone needs to watch it and the entire nation owes Manti a huge apology. What a tremendous young man. If he is guilty of anything it is being too kind and trusting.

At the same time I wanted to throw my shoe at the TV every time time Roniah (sp?) came on the screen. What a horrible human being and any remorse she showed seemed fake. Just infuriating at the end when she claims the incident helped her grow as a person. She/he is a sociopath.

Watched it. I think manti comes off as sincere, but it is beyond weird to be catfished like that.

I am sorry you had to see pictures of an overweight woman on television.

Yeah, I thought the same. I think he just let it go a little too far and then he lost control of it. Dumb on his side but criminal on Ronaiah’s side.

Yeah but when you see the entire sequence of events in context, it makes a lot more sense. Certainly was dumb and naïve, but Ronaiah really took advantage of that and worked him over.

Ronaiah is a classic sociopath, btw. Manipulating people is what they enjoy most enjoy doing. They’re also experts at playing the victim.

Me too. Can you also apologize for way too many pictures of urban Meyers wife?
