If I lived in Salt Lake I'd go to the celebration. It's a historic day, after all.
For Ute fans this is pretty cool to see:

Wish I could. I'm home today and would rather be doing anything else, as I'm sick as hell. I don't know if there is a bug going around or if I ate something bad, but I've been driving the porcelain bus for the last 12 hours or so.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI guess nobody is going?

I would think most Ute fans would be there. Nary a peep on CUF.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostIf I lived in Salt Lake I'd go to the celebration. It's a historic day, after all.

I was there. It wasn't a huge crowd, but it ended up bigger than that overhead showed.Originally posted by kccougar View PostWell, I figured the parade smack was played out.
It was a nice turnout for what it was.
This is what I said on another forum:
First of all, any time you have an excuse to celebrate The U in the middle of the summer, that's a good thing.
That being said, it was pretty formal and I thought the whole thing was a bit of a letdown following the presser and invite at RES over a year ago.
This felt pretty ceremonial and wasn't nearly as emotional as that event last June was.
Larry Scott mentioned several times what a great fit and what a great addition the school is to the PAC12.
A speech by a student body president who was obviously and understandably flustered by the large crowd.
Orrin Hatch said a few words. Nice of him to show up, but pretty robotic.
Matheson shared that he is a fan and season ticket holder.
Hill said a few words.
Greg Bell declared this "Utah PAC12 Day".
It ended.
I was quite surprised that there weren't any trailers/trucks selling PAC12 merchandise. Seemed like a missed opportunity.
In the end, it was a nice diversion during the summer. It was great to talk Utah and the PAC12. The weather was wonderful and there were great photo ops with the snow covered mountains in the background.
It was an occasion that I was glad to attend, but, like I said, it was a bit of a letdown. The real emotion was felt when the invite was extended and accepted last summer. Momentous occasion, but really, a formality.

Interesting article from Athlon about who are the winners and losers in this past year's conference realignments:
Conference Realignment's Winners and Losers
It's full of insights about various conferences and programs. Here's what it said about Utah, which ranked among the winners:
BYU is with Boise State in the "Incomplete" section:Utah – The Utes were the original BCS buster and now move into a conference with an automatic bid. Considering USC’s probation and question marks surrounding the other teams in the Pac-12 South, the Utes have an opportunity to turn some heads in their first year in the conference. Utah can also say goodbye to the MTN and hello to ESPN and FOX – a huge upgrade in exposure. Utah’s move to the Pac-12 isn’t only a benefit to the athletics, but will also bring more money into the athletic department with the conference’s new television contract.
And, in honor of HFN, I post this piece from The Oregonian. Good stuff.BYU – The decision by BYU to go independent will be heavily scrutinized. BYU certainly has a national audience and has lined up some marquee opponents for the coming years. The Cougars also scored a solid television deal with ESPN and are allowed to broadcast some of its games on BYUtv – something it could not do as a member of the Mountain West. However, there’s no guarantee the bowl destinations will be any better as an independent, and the Mountain West could soon become an automatic qualifier into the BCS. Although it’s not out of the question BYU could earn a BCS at-large bid as an independent, playing in a conference with an automatic bid is a better situation. Money played a significant role in BYU’s decision to become an independent, but this is one expansion decision that will be revisited with much interest in a couple of years.Last edited by LA Ute; 07-01-2011, 06:19 PM.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
