Someone more savvy than I will have to link the South Bend Tribune article that pointed out that BYU's independence gives Notre Dame a nice scheduling option. Apparently, they don't realize that any team could bend their schedule to accomodate ND.

    EDIT: Here it is:

    The last line:
The BYU move could indirectly benefit Notre Dame, giving the Irish a potential upper-tier football opponent that has scheduling flexibility in November.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Silly Surfah...they only play Navy because of the intense longstanding rivalry! They'll never play BYU! (Except for the three times they have...)

(That's not a knock on you, Azzurri--you were just asking a question. Or you, Surfah. It's just my turn for the snarky remarks. )

Also, which football program (BYU or ND) is in better shape?

Silly country! BYU is no Notre Dame! I'm surprised they even know who BYU is!

If this latest rumor is true, BYU has put themselves in the best imaginable position--more money, potential yearly matchups with ND, better TV, complete availability to the B12 (and a likely better starting bargaining position). I'm glad someone had the guts to give up those yearly matchups with New Mexico.

Interesting how the doubters are becoming oddly silent. The annoying thing about naysayers is that they're always ready to say "I told you so" and make the obvious snarky jokes. The nature of change is that more often than not, they'll be right. But when they're wrong, they disappear. At least until the next idea comes along.

          There. Schizophrenic rant over.

That would be a good move for all involved imo. BYU gets a home for the other sports and broadcast rights (and probably football scheduling support). The MWC ,along Comcast/CBS, gets BYU basketball and away games with MWC members plus new markets (cable fees) and a nice TCU/BSU showdown at the end of the year.
Finally a resolution that would actually make sense for all parties involved IMO.

                4. In the West division, it'll be Hawaii, Fresno, Nevada, SDSU, Boise State, and I'm not sure who the sixth team will be.
It would have to be UNLV, which would make sense. UNLV gets Nevada in their division as a rival. Good for them. Same with SDSU and and Fresno, and Boise can have Hawaii. Makes a ton of sense.

                5. In the East division, it'll be TCU, USU, CSU, Wyoming, AFA, and I'm not sure who the sixth team will be. (Probably New Mexico)
Air Force and Colorado State stick together, same with Wyoming. TCU doesn't have a true rival, but they've got to be happy that they aren't in the same division as Boise so the power is split.

So just tell me whether you think ESPN polls are authoritative and reliable. Once you tell me that we can have some discussions about other BYU-related conclusions such polls have reached.

No. Still, BYU wins 83% of Utah is worth bragging about a little bit.

ESPN polls are about as scientific, authoritative, and reliable as cold fusion research at the University of Utah back in the late 80's.
