I'm sure the WAC sees that our first-choice outcome does not involve them. Even if we left them, Benson could end up looking like a genius if the MWC breaks up. Really, anything that hurts the MWC helps the WAC. If BYU actually leaves the MWC, Benson has already won, even if they don't ever play a game in the WAC.Last edited by ERCougar; 08-18-2010, 08:06 AM.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Because they just ignored two of the top 4 or 5 teams in the country. It's not their only PR blunder but it would be their biggest, and one very easily dispensed with by throwing the MWC a bone.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostWhen has the BCS not been a PR nightmare, and why would it be worse when the MWC gets turned down again? At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

You don't think Karl Benson has any idea what BYUs plans are? I'm sure he knows that if the BIG 12 comes calling we are answering that call. I'd imagine the deal with the WAC would allow us to pull our other sports out of the WAC at the drop of a hat.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostAssuming the idea that we go independent then get a B12 invite before we ever play as an independent, I'll be excited to see the true blue crowd explain how we didn't lie to or trick Karl Benson and the WAC.
And yes, we are just that awesome to be able to spin a deal like that."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

This is all awfully exciting, but I hope that BSU can back out of the MWC deal if this really happens. It'd be a shame if the bball team, which really seems to be gaining momentum, suffered even more for lack of competition. I have to think that TCU is going to start looking hard at its options if BYU leaves, especially if BSU finds a way back to the WAC.
Why exactly couldn't the football team go independent but stay affiliated with the MWC for other sports? Seems a little bridge-burny to me.

You guys keep throwing these blanket statements out without any specifics. I've heard good answers to both scheduling issues and TV issues. What else is left? The loss of the Vegas Bowl? Ouch.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostWe need a new forum to house this thread and other similar ones called "Fantasy Island." Going independent really would be cutting off your nose to spite your face. It would be a colossal disaster for BYU so I guess I hope it happens.

How true. One of my pet peeve's, in case no one has noticed, is the crowd that not only believes but hypes the idea the BYU is different. Integrity, honor and fair play is more important to them than anything else.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostAssuming the idea that we go independent then get a B12 invite before we ever play as an independent, I'll be excited to see the true blue crowd explain how we didn't lie to or trick Karl Benson and the WAC.
Bull crap. $$$$ and their best interest is what is most important to them and I think that is OK. A lot of folks are going to believe leaving the MWC high and dry shows lack of integrity, well if it does, tough crap.

It still wouldn't justify overlooking the bottom half of the conference.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostBecause they just ignored two of the top 4 or 5 teams in the country. I guess we can disagree here (and really, it's way off the point of the thread), but I just don't see how they would then answer a call for a playoff, where we don't have to worry about the effect of the bottom half of the conference.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostIt still wouldn't justify overlooking the bottom half of the conference.
It's been interesting to observe this remarkable change of attitude towards the BCS by some of our members...

I am shocked by this turn of events.#BYU athletic dept. spokesman Duff Tittle says school won't have an announcement of any kind today, says no news conference scheduled Thurs.
