Maybe Hill's urgency is that he knew that BYU was going to be leaving the MWC.

Knowing that, he knew he had to get the hell out before the conference imploded.

Utah is even taking a financial hit to do so in not getting any league money, from either league, for a year.

Nope. This is all being driven by Hill wanting to start in 2011. I just can't figure out why it is so urgent.

How bizarre. The only thing that makes sense is that Dr. Hill is worried the whole thing might fall apart, so he needs to get in as fast as possible. Otherwise, why go early, pay your own way (and take a hit)?

Two BCS bowl bids for the Pac-12 should get Utah more money than it would make in the MWC.

Even if the money from the bowls is less than what Utah would get from one more year in the MWC, it's worth taking a hit for one year to not have to play two lame-duck seasons in the MWC.
What's wrong with playing two years in the MWC? What's wrong with playing any lame duck years?

He did it to hurt and annoy you, Falafel. We might as well just say it.

Let's be clear: Utah won't lose any money in 2011. Even though they won't receive any shared revenue, the PAC-10 has given assurances that they'll cover any losses sustained during the 2011-12 season.

They're leaving ASAP because the sooner they can be a part of a better conference with a better TV deal, the sooner their recruiting and perception can start to improve. And with USC still unable to participate in a bowl game, that's one less team to compete with for the coveted Rose Bowl trip.

Hill will get Mr. Huntsman and Mr. Eccles to write a couple of checks and we'll be fine. No sweat.

To the high rollers $15M is not much money, and considering he just pulled off the greatest achievement in the history of U of U sports, the sales pitch has been made, convincingly.

If nothing else, we could melt down the gold statue of the esteemed Dr. Hill that will most assuredly be up by then.
