We've already been through this, funk, but Wrubell's homerism and trying-too-hard-to-lower-his-voice failure aside, Greg is a very good play-by-play man. He does an excellent job describing the action, particularly in basketball, and he is better prepared than anyone out there.

As for the Utes, I still think one of their worst decisions ever was to get rid of Matt Thomas. He was a very good broadcaster.

Dolce needs to go as well. I like Frank as a person but he is horrible on the radio.

He has horrid timing, at least in my mind.

For instance, I’ll put in an imaginary scenario.

There is 5 seconds left, Utah is down by 3 and is kicking a FG to tie the game. The ball is snapped, the kick will be up, and the suspense is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Ute fans universally hold their breath and time seems to almost stop. The ball flies in slow-motion. The play-by-play guy is about to announce the ball is wide left then…

              Cue Dolce.

“No good! Ah, man!!! No good! Horrible kick, just horrible!” (He’s screaming this over the play-by-play guy who’s trying to describe what has just happened without making the fans feel any worse.)

Dolce always seems to scream out the play result before the play-by-play guy can explain and before I can react myself.

I agree. Wrubell is a great play-by-play guy.

If it's consolation to the Ute fans, he has a terrible color guy for football.

If you listen to his delivery and not his content, Greg Wrubell is a great play-by-play guy. (Not that his content is bad, but I can see how Utes would dislike him because of his homerism.)

What I like about this whole "development" is that Riley was fired a year ago (two years?) because it was thought he wasn't enough of a homer for the Utes. Because he called many BYU football and basketball games prior to his stint at the U.

So now, he's more of a homer? He'll never be anything but a jayhawks fan.

I'll miss Bill Lagaschultz, especially his voiceovers for Texaco. With his drunken-man slur (I'm not saying he was a drunk, just that he slurred his words that way), he would extoll at length the virtues of testicles.

My favorite word, though, was his pronunciation of the school of the Lobos: Nyoo Messco.

If I felt the inclination, I could list at least 500000000000000 plays that were better than that one - and none of them would involve BYU.

Edit: I needed to add a few more zeroes to be more accurate.

Agreed 100%. That freakin' zoob Dave Checketts is to blame for Thomas getting tossed.

I liked Kruger's pick in the 48-24 game better. The Pickus Humiliatus.
