  • Contracts for Cougars - NIL deals for BYU players

This thread is intended to chronicle the NIL deals made by various BYU players. What are they peddling? What are the terms of the contracts? Are you more (or less) likely to buy the product/service because of the contract?

Not for BYU but this is a good example of how big time programs are going to differentiate themselves when it comes to NLI contracts. I can only imagine what Alabama or tOSU players will be getting to "advertise" whatever on social media, but I imagine it'll be north of $500/month. Hopefully BYU can find a wealthy fan that could use some expensive advertising.

Wait, what if the team is sponsored by Under Armour? Can some dude on the team sign with Nike? Why would Nike pay some guy who wears an under armour uni?

Oh, this is gonna be fun.

In your hypothetical they can't wear Nike while playing in a game but can absolutely wear Nike outside of the game or official team promotion.

So, Tyler Batty and Austin Riggs become the first BYU players with endorsement deals:

Batty and fellow freshman Austin Riggs became the first NIL-endorsed athletes at BYU in the NCAA's new era when they signed Wednesday with Balmshot, a family-owned manufacturing company based in Eagle, Idaho, that makes all-natural, beeswax-based lip balm and packages it in recycled 20-gauge shotgun shells.

"It's a great product; I used it a lot, even before they signed me," said Batty, who also was recently married in June. "I couldn't be happier endorsing this product, because I actually love it."

In the brave new world of name, image and likeness sponsorships, a Texas A&M fan site has struck a deal to pay two Aggies football players $10,000 each for "exclusive feature interviews" ahead of SEC media days.
I wonder how much Cougarboard could pony up to get some exclusive interviews with BYU players or BYU recruits. My guess is that this is just teh start of stuff like this. Pretty soon it'll be common place for players to get "interviews" for big paydays and I bet the biggest paydays will come from SEC teams businesses located in SEC country.

Yeah, what prevents a booster/company from just paying players as much as they want as social media influencers? At least its above board.

Will there be any limits on the amounts that can be paid? Also, will public schools be able to limit what types of affiliations student athletes can make? For example, can athletes accept payments from casinos?
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

In theory there’s a rule that says they can’t be paid more than the fair market value of their services.

Nothing like a clear objective line to make sure everybody plays fair. Though in this industry that is hardly necessary; who would want to cheat in a thing like sports?

Alex Barcello announced on Twitter that he has signed with Oncoor Marketing, https://www.oncoormarketing.com/ , which is basically an agency, to get potential NIL deals.

Paisley Harding, who I believe is Connor Harding's wife, has signed a one year deal with Desert First Credit Union. This deal was announced by Oncoor so I guess she's also a client of theirs. According to Oncoor, they now have over 40 college athletes signed including Britain Covey and Boise's QB Bachmeyer.

Interestingly, BYU has stated their official policy is that it is up to the athletes to announce the NIL deals, not the school. Obviously this protocol wasn't really followed for the Built Bar deal, but I suppose it makes sense given the scope of that deal.

I want to get my daughter a NIL deal is 2 years when she gets back from her mission, but she is so boring, it would be impossible to pull off. Pl;us she would have to get a lot better and be in a sport people cared about.

Does she have any kind of social media following? That's probably the place to start.
