I am thinking that BYU will join football-only for 2012. The other sports will come later given they may need to give notice to the WCC.
If they gave notice to the WCC this year couldn't they be full members in 2012? Not sure if WCC has an exit penalty.

    • If ESPN wants us in the Big12 that is where we will be. If not, we will wait for superconference expansion.

It's the best thing that's happened to BYU in 100 years of athletics. If your goal is competitiveness, it's a no-brainer. If there are other issues going on, I guess there could be a reason to turn it down.

Hahaha... This made me laugh a lot. And I agree, even though I didn't get my degree from BYU.

Val Hale the former BYU AD? I recall that Rondo Fehlberg wanted BYU in the Big 12 as well. It will be interesting to see if TH gets the job done.

IMO if college football ends up going to super conferences (I really really hope that it doesn't) BYU gets left out. I think the BIG 12 being as unstable as it is will be the first conference to blow-up. I predict that and the Big East will be the two conferences that won't exist if this happens.

Agreed. We have a much better chance in a super Conference if we have a few years under out belt in a BCS conference.

I agree. Its a bit frightening for a BYU fan. BYU needs the Big 12 to be one super conferences if it wants in. If the B12 and the BE crumble, the PAC can take Texas, OU, OSU, and maybe Kansas or TT to get to 16. Everyone else can look east. BYU and Boise will be left all alone.

I disagree. As long as BYU is marketable in the way ESPN believes them to be right now, they will have a place in the top 64.

None of us knows the contractual arrangement with the WCC. But most of us assume that we put in a specific "out clause" for the contingency that the B12 comes calling. Even so, there would be no rush to get the other sports into the B12. I certainly wouldn't care if we waited an extra year for non-football sports, even if it were just to be nice to all those catholics.

And that is the reason why BYU has to clear this with ESPN before they move. They can't afford to let the relationship sour.

Yes, BYU needs to be in the Big 12 because I like the BYUtv app too much.

I don't think Texas will go to the PAC and give up their LHN. The rumor is OU is starting their own network as well. I wouldn't be surprised if ND also starts up their own network as well in the near future. Which conference will allow BYU, Texas, OU, and ND to keep their networks?

One of the recent comments by Bronco as to why he thought we were headed toward super conferences was because the big boys in the BCS conferences were tired of subsidizing the Baylors and Dukes and Vanderbuilts and Iowa States of their own conferences. If that is so, it doesn't make sense to base the new super-conferences on previous inclusion in a BCS conference. Start over. In that scenario, I agree with you that BYU couldn't possibly be left out of the top 64 if it were at all based on performance, revenue, fan support.
