Hmmm. If the Big 12 were to add BYU and ND (or even just ND) and also allow it flexibility to schedule 7 OOC games, what would happen if ND won the Big 12 but lost most of its OOC games? Conceivably there could be a 5-7 ND team that won the Big 12 championship, but that isn't even bowl elligible. Or, maybe it wins only a few OOC games, and comes in at 6-6. Would the BCS really allow a 6-6 ND team into one of its games? What about a 6-6 Iowa State?

Well the worst a champion could do is 5-8. I guess they burn that bridge when they get there.Originally posted by falafel View PostHmmm. They allowed an 8-4 UConn to play the Sooners in the last Fiesta bowl. I was a little worried that OU, even though they were favored by 17, wasn't going to win that game given the problems that they had with bowl games.Originally posted by falafel View PostHmmm. What I've heard is that talks are on-going about a home-away in 2021-2022 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the "Game of the Century". I think Osborne and Castiglione are both behind this and it will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if OU wants another home-away earlier than that and Nebraska declined. Nebraska insists on 7-home games and figured out long ago that it can sell out Memorial Stadium whether it's the Oklahoma Sooners or the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits. As a result, they will only schedule one competitive OOC game per season. I wish the Huskers would "man-up" like the Sooners and play a tougher OOC schedule.Originally posted by Babs View PostInteresting. I'm sure you're aware that OU has proposed a home-away to preserve the series with Nebraska, and that Osborne has declined.
Anyway, I think Nebraska is being careful about what OOC teams it schedules until it finds out how well it can compete and recruit in the Big Ten. Bo Pelini has built up a little momentum and that can be quickly derailed in the Big Ten let alone scheduling a perennial top team in OU. I guess that makes Nebraska the new Kansas St. Ouch.
Hopefully, I'm wrong and Oklahoma-Nebraska will play in Cowboys stadium in the Cowboys Classic game. That would be garner high ratings, would definitely sell out, and I could easily attend. Both programs have an interest in playing another game in Texas; especially now that Nebraska is out of the Big 12.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I remember Uncle Ted posting an audio link to it. It was funny and I loved those lines you quoted. Also enjoyed:Originally posted by oxcoug View PostHysterical SEC / A&M radio parody of "SEC guy."

When it comes to the Big 12 Boone Pickens seems to always have an opinion or some advice to give...
So Pickens who regularly does business with aggy alums doesn't want them to leave the Big 12. Why didn't Pickens give this opinion a year ago when the huskers were leaving the conference?Boone Pickens has some advice for Texas A&M.
“Stay home,” he said.
On the night that Oklahoma State's mega-booster was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, he was asked what he would tell Texas A&M about leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. What he would do if he held as much sway in College Station as he does in Stillwater?
He would suggest that the Aggies to stay put.
“That's a big mistake for Texas A&M to move out,” Pickens said Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. “They're moving out of Texas when they do that, and I don't think that's a smart deal.”
Pickens attended Texas A&M for a year before transferring to OSU, but now, he makes his home in Texas. He regularly does business and crosses paths with lots of folks who are alums of Texas A&M.
“Aggies, you know, they're very spirited guys,” Pickens said.
So, will that feisty nature prompt them to leave the Big 12?
“I don't think they'll move,” Pickens said. “I don't want 'em to. Texas doesn't want 'em to, either. Nobody wants 'em to leave.

I still remember staying up to about 4AM listening to that game and being so frustrated I had to stop listening because the Sooners couldn't tackle Jonny Rogers. The only time - to my knowledge - a conference has finished 1-2-3 in the final national pollsOriginally posted by Paperback Writer View PostWhat I've heard is that talks are on-going about a home-away in 2021-2022 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the "Game of the Century"...Last edited by happyone; 08-16-2011, 07:34 PM.

I'm going off memory but BYUtv was launched in 2000ish with little intent to broadcast BYU sports. It's main objective was to carry lds programming to places that KBYU didn't reach. I rmember walking through the Ironton building the week of the launch of BYUtv (I worked for BYU broadcasting) having no idea what impact the new channel would have on BYU football.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostBYU was able to do it with LDS church funding (I'm guessing as I doubt BYU athletics paid for it)."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. It just isn't going to happen. I could see Iowa St. getting booted out of the BIG 12 before Iowa joins it.Originally posted by TheAzzuri View PostThrough Iowa's name into the mix as a possible expansion candidate (from a pretty good source). That actually makes some sense, but I don't see it happening.
