  • I'm not seeing how a rematch would get this kind of money.

      It won't.

The ratings of these games haven't been all that great.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

      • Big 12 is dumb but we knew that already. Screw 'em. We'll do this ourselves. 250-1 odds next season. Mount up, bitches.

          • I thought the ACC was on-board with the Big 12's proposal. Why did they flip-flop?

But it seems unlikely he would make that representation (assuming he did) unless he had some basis for those numbers.

Maybe the independents should have a championship game. We could play ND every year.

That would be great. Unfortunately, it seems continued lack of P5 money will make it harder and harder for BYU to climb the ladder of success. It would have been nice for the Big XII to be forced to expand.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Maybe he was including the money from the Big 12 getting a team into a playoff game. Having a championship game makes that more likely now.

The BiG 12's negotiating position will be weak. The game will feature a rematch. ESPN has a right of refusal which means the conference needs to get a price from another broadcaster and then see if ESPN wants to match it. Typically a right of refusal will depress the value as other bidders don't want to put a lot of effort into something that ESPN can simply match. I'm guessing they'll get something closer to $20MM.

This year would have been a rematch with Ok St. If OU weren't already in I don't think beating an over matched OSU team for the second week in a row moves the needle for the playoff committee.

                          • It probably would have worked last year though with TCU/Baylor.

The big question is what they do if there is a 3-way tie for first. I suppose they'll go with the top two teams in the playoff committee rankings.

No doubt they'll have an elaborate tie-breaker system like the NFL--or, like the other conferences do for their divisions.
