My educated guess is that Notre Dame might be pulling its non-football sports from the Big East and putting them in the Big 12. The Big East has transformed so much, so quickly that I'm not even sure what original members are left. The Irish are probably looking at B-ball and other sports and wondering if there is a better conference. However, I think Notre Dame remains independent for football.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostTuesday chat with Wrubell is going on right now... Let's just say it sure seems like he has given up hope that BYU will join a real conference.
" I don't expect BYU to get an all-sports invite from any of the big boys, but I would hope that football-only is in play for potentially interested parties. No idea what would motivate the P12 to consider BYU, ever."
Follow along here.. He is very fixated on the idea that BYU is really focusing on what ND does

Keeping an eye on ND... what does that do for BYU? If they stay indy, great, we can play some games with them on occasion. If they join a conference, we are screwed.
If that occurs, maybe, just maybe, BYU gets a football only invite to the Big 12. I think BYU would be OK with leaving its non-football sports in the WCC although the B-ball program deserves better. Perhaps they get some Big 12 teams on the OOC B-ball schedule.
The Big 12 would prefer both BYU and Notre Dame for all sports, but if the Irish wanted to join a conference for all sports, they would just pick up the phone and call Jim Delany.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

And thus endeth BYU's B12 quest.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post
If it wanted, the B12 could pull together UM, FSU, Clem, GT, and maybe even VT / UVA and put together a killer 16-team league.
I guess that would be good news for BYU as it would put pressure on the B10 and PAC to expand and they'll be in the slim pickin's category.Last edited by Viking; 05-22-2012, 04:15 PM.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm not saying that I don't hope you are right. I'm just wondering whether your "educated guess" is based on anything other than speculation and internet rumors.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostMy educated guess is that Notre Dame might be pulling its non-football sports from the Big East and putting them in the Big 12. At various times you have occupied the position of the most bullish or the most bearish person on CUF in this thread. Nicely done."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Facts? If you didn't have DDD ignored he could teach you the difference between wild speculation and fact.Originally posted by Viking View PostWhen the facts change..."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Then we are in agreement, you don't know the definition of 'fact'.Originally posted by Viking View PostNow that is funny."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Pure speculation based on a few facts.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI'm not saying you are wrong. I'm not saying that I don't hope you are right. I'm just wondering whether your "educated guess" is based on anything other than speculation and internet rumors.
Here is what I think is solid:
Notre Dame staying independent for football. And if that changes, the Irish have always had an open invitation to the Big Ten. If Notre Dame wanted in a conference they would be in the Big Ten instead of Nebraska.
The Big East is a mess. Perhaps it is still a good basketball conference - I don't really know in light of all of the changes. From Notre Dame's viewpoint, the Big 12 might be rock solid compared to the instability of the Big East.
BYU being invited to the Big 12 for football only while Notre Dame stays independt for football but joins for other sports is just my filling in the blanks. I see a lot of benefit to all parties. The only drawback is BYU basketball playing in the WCC.Last edited by Paperback Writer; 05-22-2012, 04:34 PM.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”
