    • A lot of that column is a load of horseshit. Does anyone really think that Texas and OU are going to be in a league that has mtn. level exposure?

BYU can't have its cake and eat it too. No one cares about BYU vs. NMSU games. And chances are that ESPN isn't going to care for them once they see that they only dominate Utah County ratings when they show a game like that. What kind of casual college football fan is going to sit down and watch that?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I don't care where Alex Smith went to school. I don't care that he has sucked major anus in the past. I only care about what he's doing now.

Hopefully you enjoy your 0 Super Bowl wins and the fact that Jim Harbaugh's bitch is your coach.

You sure jumped off the 49ers bandwagon quickly. This is why we do NOT want a bunch of ex-cougar carpetbaggers suddenly shifting over to being Ute fans.

As for Super Bowl wins, I am perfectly happy watching my Patriots. (I am not a fan of the Seachickens, and I STILL hate Carroll for essentially destroying the Pats...)

Patriots fan? Are you also a Dallas Mavericks fan? lol.

                • The fallacy of that narrative is "BYU's position of power". So the Big 12 was a "lifeboat" for TCU caught between a crumbling Big East and a forsaken MWC. What DSB doesn't understand is that the Big 12 is also a "lifeboat" for BYU who is caught between scheduling quality games/relevance as an independent and a forsaken MWC. TCU jumped at the deal and got the "Utah treatment". BYU should have done the same if they were offered a similar deal.

When Nebraska joined the Big Ten, they did so on the Big Ten's terms. And it happened about as fast as when TCU joined the Big 12.

It's nancies. Ninnies are those who complain about people who complain about BYU players, coaches, admin. et.al.

OMG no, although I have respect for Mark Cuban for some strange reason (mostly due to his success in 'inventing' online streaming at Broadcast.com). I am not a fan of anything in Dallas.

I have been a Pats fan since the 70s. There were some BAD years to be a fan of a team.

This is why I hate Carroll for the way he tanked the team after Parcells left in '96. (The won the AFC championship in 97, lost in the wildcard game in 98, and weren't even close to the playoffs in 99).

I will give him credit for the Seahawks solid win over the Giants this week though...

But my wife's grandparents are die hard University of Montana fans. I've never been able to understand how they can continue to pay attention to a team that doesn't play at the highest division of college football. The reality of it is that BYU is about to find itself on the outside of a Superconference structure. Scheduling as an independent isn't really working out that well (although it really isn't that much worse than when BYU was in the MWC). When it appears as if the school sat with its thumb up its butt with the Big 12, then that just won't sit well with people that want to see BYU compete at the highest level possible.

So, I don't have to pay attention to BYU football. I like the NFL and NBA more already and we still have BYU basketball. If BYU doesn't care about its fans and instead cares more about rebroadcasting things like a 54-10 beatdown right after the BYU Book of Mormon McGlaughlin Group, then I don't have to continue caring about BYU football. I'm not as much of a diehard as many of you. I always paid about 10x more attention to the Niners growing up than BYU and now my time is more limited. So if I have to make a choice, then BYU may have made it quite easy by being perfectly okay playing SJSU and NMSU into perpetuity.
I graduated from the SJ Quinney College of Law but BYU has forsaken me.

                        • By definition, the BOT is going to approve or disapprove this invitation. Every other school operates the same way. So Holmoe and Samuelson are not really at fault, although both will share much of the public relations fallout.

So we are to believe that the BOT turned down a B12 invite over the right to rebroadcast games within 70-something hours? That makes little sense to me, especially when comparisons are drawn to the .MTN. The problem with the .MTN back in the day wasn't the rebroadcast, it was the initial broadcast. Fans couldn't watch the actual games.

Why are the rebroadcast rights so critical? How many people here watch the rebroadcast of a game? It seems that in the era of DVRs, most people just TiVo the original broadcast and rewatch that.
                          Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

He may be partially correct because BYU IS a fruit ripe for plucking by an AQ conference.

My fear is that byu overplayed their hand, were overly agressive in the negotiations, and demanded too much. Utah essentially 'buying in' to teh partnership now looks prudent by comparison.

It would be very interesting to know how much the existing and perceived 'baggage*' played in the decisions? (*Sunday play, BYUTV streaming rights, history of firing professors who hold views contrary to the church, etc.)

                            • Translation: we are apologists for BYU and nothing more. This site is run by dudes who want greater access to BYU but have lost their media credentials so we get access in exchange for typing up whatever we are told to.

                              • Is it me or was that a big old on why BYU was left in the cold.. The idea of BYU having power seems off to me...
