    2. BYU invite now depends on MO leaving or adding more teams.
    3. MO leaving appears unlikely or at best uncertain.
    4. Adding more teams could be very possible, but announcing TCU first implies there's some uncertainty that will happen.

So BYU joining Big 12 is uncertain at best unlikely at worst.
It is all over Jay. If General Conference were the first week in November Tom and Cecil could have had it worked out, but the 12 got together to discuss it and you know how they started to outdo each other being less worldly and more spiritually intune. Word on the street is Elder Bednar led the revolt of the mullahs and they convinced the rest to say no. In fact I heard that BYU was offered more money than Texas but Elder Bednar responded to Bevo: Get Thee Behind Me, Satan.

This is the end. They are probably starting to take apart Lavell Edwards Stadium today, don't expect a big crew as it is probably being done with only a leathermen knife!

I think the only way BYU gets into the Big 12 is if Missouri leaves. If Missouri stays they will add two Big East schools as travel partners.

I wonder if BYU ever had an invite. Maybe all those rumors out there about BYU accepting an invite were insiders expecting the the invite to come. BYU had already decided they would accept. At the last minute the Big 12 throws a curveball and invites TCU instead.

I'll admit I was nervous when I heard OSU became head of the expansion committee. I think Pickens was pretty vocal about not inviting BYU. We all know Pickens runs that University's athletic program.

Big 12 official statement on TCU

Acting upon a unanimous recommendation of its expansion subcommittee, the Big 12 Conference Board of Directors has authorized negotiations with Texas Christian University to become the Conference's 10th member, and instructed interim commissioner Chuck Neinas to immediately begin discussions with TCU.

The action of the Board was without dissent. On the advice of legal counsel, The University of Missouri did not participate in the vote.

Sure seem to be strong, strong signals out there right not about BYU & TCU joining the Big 12. Nothing official yet but talk getting louder.

            • So if tier 1 and 2 rights are locked in for 6 (or 13 years) is there any incentive to expand past 10?

Good. This is where TCU should be. They never should have been heading to the Big East...but it does give creedance that it is probably likely BYU said no thanks and now the Big-12 is going to raid more Big East teams. This is our day of infamy, Brethren!

I think the real issue is BYU wanted to make sure it could keep its good relationship with the Catholic Church. When the dust settles my prediction is the reason BYU will have said "No thanks," to the Big-12 invite was maintaining membership in the WCC.

In my heart I deeply respect the mormon church's committment to keeping its word with the WCC. Today will stand as one of my proudest as a member of the Mormon Church and I am confident our resolution to keeping our word will make us enormously popular with likeminded people not of our faith! I am sure WashingtonCoug agrees with me! Besides that he can now watch hoop games in person, with about 2000 other persons, against the Portland Pilots and other sexy NW programs!

Same incentives as any league has to expand past 10.

I don't see how that makes much difference on whether they decide to go with 10 or 12. The only real question is "Does 12 and a championship game get us more money?" Obviously, the P12 decided the answer was a clear yes.

Oh if it comes out the way you describe, I will be rending all my clothes. But the information is too sketchy right now, and I'm trying to keep my faith.
