I vote that it is all just a bunch of talk. BYU is in and Texas knows it.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

The WCC has already made it clear that they would not seek to block BYU if they were invited.

      • From a financial standpoint. I really don't get the brethren, BOT, or Samuelson having issues with so much money involved. BYUTV is important, but running an entire school is a whole lot of money... this could help the school function in general... which is nice when the church is already cutting its private schools around the world. We don't have to worry about winning an insane amount to keep the money coming from ESPN, and can friggin save the church money... they better be playing with their brains.

The way I see it as a fan...
BIG 12: Loose first 3 games, win out rest of season, BCS Bowl
Independence: Loose first 3 games, win out rest of season, the "Bowl nobody cares about" Bowl.

With 1 loss we were relegated to the BNCA Bowl.

Don't mean to pull a Max Hall here, but I was at an ASU game two years ago against Georgia, and had beer accidentally spilled on me. It could have come from a number of places, but I assumed it was purchased at the stadium.

Not 100% true. Beer and wine sales are permitted in "premium seating" at ASU home games. Google it.

No wonder Max transferred from ASU.

I'm with you LA Ute. Someone needs to make a pros/cons list or a flow chart or something.

CON: If Missouri Bolts, it shows the conference is still unsettled.

I still maintain that Mizzou doesn't have anywhere to go. I think they are pissed because they don't get any love. Also, Boren did not help by upstaging Deaton and the Tigers last week. So I think this is all nothing more than their way (and only way) of getting back at OU/Texas and feeling more important than they really are. Like I said the other day, they can save some face and feel like one of the big kids if next week they emerge from their meetings resolved to stay in the Big 12. Then they can look like the ones that saved the Big 12 by restoring stability.

From what I can gather, most in the Big 12 wouldn't care if Mizzou left. Others more connected can correct me, but most seem to be tired of them. They have been a malcontent for so long and have done little to hide their boner for the Big 10 and have pitifully thrown themselves at every other conference. But the fact is if they had an offer anywhere they'd be gone already.

                    • Mizzou Board Worried About Exit Fees

No Board of Curators members responded to interview requests made by The Star on Tuesday. But three sources closely aligned with the board or the school told The Star that the curators’ prime concern is a Big 12 exit fee of up to $40 million.

“If it were just a matter of saying let’s go say goodbye Big 12 and join the SEC,” one source told The Star, “if there was no litigation or a few dollars involved, it would be an easy choice.

“If it comes down to we’ve got to come up with 40 million bucks, or whatever the number might be, that’s a different deal.”

Nebraska was reported to have forfeited $9 million in Big 12 revenue when it left for the Big Ten before this season and Colorado roughly $7 million when it moved to what is now the Pac-12.

Those figures were below the full amount that could have been withheld according to Big 12 bylaws:

100 percent of eligible revenues for a two-year period will be withheld if a school gives less than six months’ notice of departure.

90 percent if the notice is between six months to just under a year.

80 percent if notice is received less than 18 months but to a year prior to departure.

70 percent if notice is received less than two years but prior to 18 months to departure.

50 percent if notice is given before the two-year “effective date” of departure.

Exit fees for Texas A&M, which will join the Southeastern Conference next year and announced Aug. 31 that it would withdraw from the Big 12 on June 30, have been estimated at $30 million.
The curators and state officials, according to multiple sources, would not request taxpayers to pay for the exit fees. Those same sources expressed doubt even the most well-heeled MU athletic boosters would contribute anywhere approaching $40 million.

The money might be borrowed in anticipation of greater payouts coming to Missouri as part of another conference. Published reports earlier this year indicated Big Ten members could receive $22 million each in conference revenues and SEC schools could receive $18.3 million each. Big 12 schools, according to officials, could receive $13 million to $14 million each on average.

                            • So now Mizzou is going to drag this thing out another effin week? I don't think they are going anywhere. If they had an SEC invite they would be scheduling an emergency meeting of the "curators" immediately. This is just their way of getting back at OU for upstaging them last week with the press conferences. I just might have to tune everything expansion out until next week. This rollercoaster ride got old a month ago

                                Little more information on OBs...

7:30 PM - Chuck Neinas, interim Big 12 commissioner, told reporters today the Big 12 is not opposed to expansion inside the state of Texas - something I've been saying since my report on OB on Sept. 22 (when I said TCU may be the leading candidate to be school No. 10 in the B12).

Neinas also said Mizzou chancellor Brady Deaton is no longer chairing the Big 12's 5-member expansion committee (Kansas State's president is). I'm told that's to take pressure off Deaton as his school contemplates a possible future outside the Big 12.
