  • A reason to cheer for the Buckeyes:

As TCU and Baylor keep winning. They will eventually face each other and one will remain in the 4th spot. However their season will be done while the Buckeyes will keep playing for the Big Ten title Game. Talks of the Buckeyes winning that game and jumping Baylor/TCU for the coveted 4th and final spot.

When that happens it will force the Big 12 to deal with not having a conference championship game and hopefully BYU will be one of the teams they add.

I expect DDD and YO to thank me later.. Publicly, and shamelessly cheer the buckeyes to victory..

Will their hatred for the Buckeyes hinder this from happening? Or will their love for BYU joining the Big 12 be stronger??

TCU and Baylor have already played each other. Baylor won.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • What MBN said.

TCUs only "tough" game left is vs texas over thanksgiving. Not the marquee matchup it could have once been, but texas does seem to be improving a little bit. TCU finishes the season against Iowa State, so basically TCU is screwed. We saw this weekend that barely beating Kansas hurt them. As a result they were jumped in the polls. Even if they demolish Iowa state, too many other teams will be playing CCGs that weekend. The winner will jump TCU. They are out.

Baylor has the more interesting road. They already beat TCU head to head but obviously dabrockster is too busy making his chinese exchange students sneak food and roll up foam mats for him to notice. They finish the season against Kansas State which right now is as good a matchup as most other CCGs. If Kansas state stays ranked highly and then loses to Baylor, I think baylor likely gets in.

If the buckeyes lose, then the buckeyes lose.

Plus Urban is their coach. Do we need another reason?

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Ultimately, Baylor will get knocked out for their absurd non-conference schedule. I don't think hammering SMU, Northwestern State, and Buffalo is going to be deemed playoff worthy.

              • While I did not realize they had played each other, I still think the issue is the Big 12 will be left out due to not having a conference title game. They will get jumped (Whoever it is sitting at #4). The only way this issue goes away is if both TCU and Baylor lose a game.

But if they win out, the discussion will be if a surging Buckeye team who will play a tough opponent (More than likely Wisconsin currently ranked 14) in the Big Ten title game deserves to leap frog TCU/Baylor. I think they will, and this will bring the Big 12 non-title game discussion more to a head..

We'll see what Bowlsby has to say then, and the rest of the conference..

                • Why would the committee prefer Ohio state beating Wisconsin (currently 14) when baylor plays Kansas state (currently 12) that weekend?

There are many things still to be played out. However, Baylor could lose to KSU, TCU could win out, but they do not have any games left like Baylor does or Ohio State (Kansas, Texas is not as big of a deal this year, and Iowa State).

The issue is the Title Game. They don't have one, and if Ohio State plays well and wins the CFP committee may push them above. I see that as a good thing for BYU.

You may not think that will happen, but all of you also did not think Ohio State was going to mop the field with MSU..

I understand your point, but i think you havent thought it through much. The "title game" can be an advantage for the B1G, but not if Baylor is playing a higher ranked team on the very same day Ohio State is playing a lower ranked team. Yes, K State could lose between now and then, so could wisconsin, so could ohio state. The assumption is that nobody loses until that day.

there is nothing magical about a CCG in and of itself. The value of that game is that it is guaranteed to pair two highly ranked teams in the final regular season game of the year. TCU loses because no matter what happens, we know that its final matchup will fare poorly in comparison to all the CCGs. Baylor's matchup will actually be better than probably all other CCGs save the SEC (im not ruling out the pac just yet but right now the south is wide open). So if Baylor beats K state on that final day and K State is ranked 10 or 8 or whatever, the selection committee isnt going to care much that it wasnt an official championship game in favor of Ohio State beating the 12th ranked team in a CCG. Two top 10 teams playing each other is going to lend more credibility than a top 10 team and a top 15 team. Baylor's OOC schedule could hurt them, as someone else already said, but right now Baylor's final game is looking like a really good matchup, while TCU's is not.

Ohio state isnt even on the b12 radar. the bigger issue for the b12 right now is the embarrassing possibility that after all this One True Champion bs, the conference is looking at the very real possibility of the need for a tie-breaker to determine who actually wins the conference. The b12's ideal scenario was to determine the champ by playing every team and letting a winner emerge. in reality, what is happening is that the weakness of the round robin is being exposed by the very conference that has been trumpeting the strength of the round-robin.

                          • Imagine this Scenario. Oregon wins out but loses in PAC12 championship. Florida State wins out but loses in Champ game and/or OSU wins out and loses in Champ game. Does a B12 get a team in the final 4? If so can you imagine the outrage? Those conferences would demand that B12 have a Championship game. If the B12 is left out they will demand to have a game as well realizing they were left out becasue they dont have a "true Champion" ship game.

AS BYU fans we need to hope that B12 gets left out even if Baylor and TCU win out.
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

The Big 12 must expand to 12 teams immediately, as in before Saturday, even though that is completely impossible for like 900 different reasons. Listen. They said landing on the moon was impossible, and we did that even without rockets powered by Trevone Boykin's legs.
