Just as it was perceived to be Ohio State’s or Michigan State’s responsibility to carry the Big Ten banner on the national stage, the Big 12 may now be in need of Oklahoma (or Baylor) running the table. Oklahoma losing in Morgantown may end up doing more damage than good for the sake of the Big 12 when it comes time for the College Football Playoff selection committee to do their job.
As stated already, the Big 12 has breathing room ahead of the Big Ten for now, but losses inside the conference could start to do more damage than they would have if the Big 12 could record some wins against power conferences not named the Big Ten.

    • I sure hope that lack of a championship game doesn't keep the conference out. If only there had been a way last year to mitigate that risk for 2014.

Really? I would think that every single BYU fan would hope that a lack of a championship game would keep the Big 12 out.

        • That was before last Saturday, obviously, as OU pulled out the game in Morgantown. BYU fans need to hope that the winner of OU/Baylor doesn't run the table. But it's looking like they will probably do just that.

that is one scenario. another scenario is that the b12 gets a slot and the SEC gets only one of the remaining three, despite having 8 teams in the top 25 and 5 of the top 10 teams. Nothing moves mountains faster than the SEC getting pissed off. Not even the Texas legislature!

But OU didn't lose to WVU in Morgantown. Season is still early and it's possible for both OU and Baylor to lose.

The Big 12 has shown that it can only learn the hard way. I hope both OU and Baylor lose a game. And Nebraska pulls ahead of OU after they win the Big Ten CCG leaving the Big 12 out of the playoffs. The Big 12 finally has an epiphany and adds BYU and another team to the conference so that they won't be duped by the Big Ten in the future.

Plan B: Alabama and Texas A&M both make the playoffs with one loss each at the expense of one-loss OU. Texas A&M gets in because of a good showing in the SEC CCG. The Big 12 finally has an epiphany and adds BYU and another team to the conference so that they won't be duped by the SEC in the future. I'd substitute Baylor for OU but the Big 12 won't care all that much if it's Baylor getting the short-end of the play-off stick.

                      • There was an article in the Indiana Student Newspaper that talked about conference expansion and briefly mentions the B12. The article didn't mention any possible teams that would go to the B12. It was a waste of my time reading the article.

                        • Spartan coach Mark Dantonio taking shots at the B12 for not having CCG

                          http://espn.go.com/college-football/...otball-playoff

Dantonio said he doesn't think teams should be able to duck top competition in a conference championship setting and qualify for one of the four playoff spots. He sees the potential for teams to try to game the system and avoid league titles to get a better shot at making it to the national stage.

"We can't say, 'Hey, let's try and go 11-1 and not be in the championship game, and then we'll get into the playoffs.' I don't think it should work like that. That's just my opinion," Dantonio said at his weekly news conference Tuesday morning. "My vision is that you should be the champion of your league before you can be the champion of the country. That would be my vision if I was doing it. It might not happen like that."

                            http://conferenceexpansion.com/2014/...have-to-prove/

For the second straight year in a row, BYU has absolutely dominated Texas and once again, the rushing attack of the Cougars have cut new orifices into Big Daddy Longhorn. Sure, Texas is rebuilding with a new head coach but to be considered a mid-major program and go into Darryl K. Royal and tear them a new asshole is nothing short but of impressive.

The "have to be a champion of a conference before you are champion of the country" is a good one. Keep preaching Brother Dantonio.
