I take it you don't have memories of the SWC - it was the most dysfunctional conference ever! It took a while, but the dysfunctional behavior bled over to the Big 8 once the 4 former SWC schools joined to form the Big 12. Looking back, the biggest mistake the Big 8 made was not insisting that it was still the Big 8 conference and adding four new members. Instead, the Big 12 was a brand new conference which facilitated the dydfunctional aspects of the SWC to brew and fester in a new conference.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostI have to admit. At this point even if we get an invite, I've soured some on the thought of playing in the most dysfunctional conference ever.
In my view, the instablilty will continue until Mizzou stops daydreaming about the Big Ten and Texas adopts an egalitarian stance towards all other Big 12 schools. I don't see either happening in the near future. The best case scenario is Missouri staying, BYU joining, and all signing the 6-year lease on T1 and T2 media rights. That will buy 6 years of relative stability in the Big 12 but it will remain to be seen if the dysfunctional facets continue.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. They say Texas overflows with the milk of human kindness in conference talks, compared to dealing with BYU. I don’t know why West Virginia, Louisville or Cincinnati would be any trouble. Edge East.

It would seem TCU is the school doing the talking. Maybe Wyoming?Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostThe mountain west teams conference talks with Texas must have been awesome. I'm just thinking that TCU and WYO are really the only schools that have dealt with both Texas and BYU over the past few years. Am I missing someone else?Originally posted by USU Coug View PostI could see TCU playing hardball, talking trash on BYU while trying to position themselves to get an invite to the Big-12.
Regardless, it's really a silly thing for Trammel to be floating around.

They got beat over the head for so many years by BYU and Utah, and then the meal tickets left. Utah left at the first chance they could, and BYU said "Um... yeah... screw you guys", of course they're going to hate us.Originally posted by Scorcho View Post

Last I checked TCU still liked working with us, unless we tricked them into a game in Dallas this year. Maybe Patterson hating us for the entire off-season to pump-up his team was a sign of real hatred? I always kinda took that as a sign of respect... maybe I was off.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI'm just thinking that TCU and WYO are really the only schools that have dealt with both Texas and BYU over the past few years. Yeah, I would agree with you. The SWC was before my time. From what I've seen and read, I would agree with you. Hopefully we get this all worked out, but the pessimist in me thinks BYU ends up being independent. That won't be by our choice though. I think the Big 12 ends up adding other teams.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostI take it you don't have memories of the SWC - it was the most dysfunctional conference ever! I read the quote to say that, according to some MWC members, the way Texas has treated Big XII members during Big XII conference talks is better than the way BYU treated MWC members during its MWC days. I don't think he's saying the MWC and Texas have been in talks.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostThe mountain west teams conference talks with Texas must have been awesome. Chip Brown on TCU getting out of the Big East...
I'm hearing TCU will not have to adhere to the 27-month waiting period to leave the Big East. There may be a cash penalty but it will not be on par with full-blown exit fees, a source said"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Chip Brown on a rumor of TCU, once in the Big 12, playing their home games against Texas/OU at cowboys stadium...
Personally, I think TCU, if in the Big 12, should play their home games against Texas/OU at the fair park cotton bowl. It would be a nice venue for that kind of game with plenty of seating.A source close to the situation had not heard of such a proposal."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
