Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Dang.. no way is BYU going to the Big 12. This Ute has nailed it.
The MANY reasons byU will not go to Big 12
1- Coach Mendenhall.
Look here are the facts as I see them. Mendenhall can coach, he really can. He took a horrific byU team and had them competing again in no time. Crowton was poison, Mendenhall was the cure, and it was an instantaneous cure at that. But Mendenhall has his own kind of poison, and that is his sermon type press conferences. The Big 12 is in the "Bible Belt", and whether it is right or not, the Big 12 is not going to like one of their coaches getting up and giving a post game sermon at the press conference. Mendenhall gets away with it in the MWC because it is small, and it's viewers are watching a tiny network. He gets up and starts saying some of the crazy things he says now about firesides and all that, and the Big 12 is going to catch fire for it.
2- Max Hall.
I hate to beat a dead horse here, but what Max Hall did at the end of the UTAH/byU game did nothing but hurt your school. And anyone who doesn't have blinders on recognizes what a HUGE mistake it was for Hall to come out and act that way. It was a sign of a lack of discipline, respect, courtesy, self control, and sportsmanship. I have friends on the East coast who knew nothing of Max Hall until that interview. Thats really made byU look poorly. And that is not coming from me, thats coming from friends in the East and South. The fact that HAll ripped into Arizona the year before doesn't help much either.
3- Mendenhall on Hall.
I am going to get blasted for this, but blast away. Medenhall did not do the right thing, period. Hall's rant made him, his team, his coaches, and his university look very bad. Mendenhall could have done the right thing and reversed the whole deal. But what Mendenhall did was say he didn't condemn or condone Hall's statement. Mendenhall, IMO, reinforced the lack of discipline by letting Hall's comments go.
If I was head coach, I would have came out, said that Hall's statements do not reflect how the coaches, other players, team, or university feel. I then would have said that what Hall did is completely unacceptable, and that he would be receiving disciplinary actions. I would then suspend Hall. Hall could still practice, he could still play in the Veg bowl, but by suspending him, you look like you have control of your team, and have a sense of discipline.
Mendehall, and a lot of his team, speak about how they are held to higher standards. Hall put a crack in that foundation, and Mendenhall, by doing nothing, allowed that statement to crumble. If you are going to make the claim that you are held to a higher standard, you better back it up.
4- Mendenhall on football.
Coach Mendenhall, who was hired to coach football and to get the team to win, went on a press conference and said that football is not the teams first priority. For the Head Football Coach to say that is, for lack of a better word, moronic. His sole job as head coach is to win football games. There are a lot of teachers, religious leaders, counselors, institute instructors, etc. etc. Mendenhall can prioritize things in whatever order he wants, but he needs to be smart, and not throw these statements out in press conferences! I guarantee that the Big 12 has football as it's top priority, and the fact that the byU head coach already said it is not his first priority is pure lunacy. Why would the Big 12 expand to include a team whose head coach puts his job and team in 5th or 6th place of his priorities?
I wish byU well, I wish that you guys could get a bigger deal with a bigger conference. There are just to many problems with it though. UTAH goes to the PAC, and there are people on this board asking for byU fans to contact the congress to make legislation to force UTAH top stay. Big 12 teams can get on here and read that stuff, and it really makes your fan base look like crap. That with the preaching of Mendenhall, and the actions and words of players really make byU less appealing. It really makes your program look bad, almost juvenile. You can say I am a hypocrite or whatever you want, but if you take a step back, and really look at what I am saying, I think you'll see my point. But many won't, they will think I am just attacking byU and whatever else, call me a stupid "yewt" and then maybe threaten me like has happened on here before. And thats my final point. People from the Big 12, if the Big 12 is considering you, will come on here and see whats the deal is, and when they see people begging byU fans to make legislation to stop UTAH's move to the PAC, it really reflects poorly on all of you.
Let the blasting begin.

I agree with the guy except for the Hall stuff. That is a Ute continuing to cry like a baby. I disagree with Hall's comments. I thought it was poorly done.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostDang.. no way is BYU going to the Big 12. This Ute has nailed it.

However, the more I see how this continues to knaw at the Utes is making me believe the "means justified the end."

Awesome! If that was the list of what was keeping BYU out of the Big 12, I would like our chances.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostDang.. no way is BYU going to the Big 12. This Ute has nailed it.

Does anyone with an ear to the ground know if that means:
(a) There is no serious Big12-2 expansion talk going on.
or
(b) There is expansion talk happening, it just doesn't include BYU.
(a) kind of sucks, but it's what I figured all along. If (b) is true, that is a serious bummer.

Chip Brown is of the opinion if Big 12-2 decides to expand to 12 then it would be Arkansas and Notre Dame. Arkansas because of the Jerry Jones connection and Notre Dame because they could start their own network like UT, increase their recruiting footprint, and the Big 12 North would have good proximity with South Bend. There is apparently some history that ND has with UT. He believes, however, that the Big 12-2 is not going to expand for at least seven years or when the agreements with ABC/ESPN and FSN expire.Originally posted by LiveCoug View Post"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

I just can't see either of these schools moving from where they are at or what they currently have to the Big 12. Notre Dame loves being independent and they breathed a sigh of relief when the Pac-10 didn't become the Pac-16. They value their independence. Arkansas would have to be promised a ton of money to leave the SEC. That conference is top dog right now in competition as well as revenue. I just don't see either of those two schools joining. I don't blame the Big 12-2 for wanting them. They would be great pick ups for the league.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostChip Brown is of the opinion if Big 12-2 decides to expand to 12 then it would be Arkansas and Notre Dame. I honestly don't believe much of what Chip Brown says. He's being spoon fed whatever Texas wants to be let out in public. If Texas hasn't told Chip anything, then Chip doesn't know anything."To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail."
