I think BYU is in love with independence, for better or worse, and that the BigXII isn't going to allow them to live out every aspect of their little fantasy world they have built up. I think the article hints pretty hard at that fact.

If the Big 12 wants BYU in its league, it will find a way to get it done. If BYU receives what it demands, it will be in the Big 12.

Getting to 12 becomes less attractive with WV gone. The BE is dead with WV leaving. There might not be a waiting period for someone like Louisville. That could hurt BYU.

This waiting period stuff will not be what gets BYU into or out of a conference. Don't sweat the waiting period. Being able to come right away is not what will get BYU in over other schools. Contracts are made to be renegotiated. The Big 12 isn't all that worried about 9 versus 10 schools in 2012. BYU will get in because it is the right school and they would get in even if the Big 12 had to wait on them. Having the ability to join right away is appealing, and a nice bonus but it isn't the reason why BYU is being considered.

Harmon is the ultimate homer. He is late to the party so his contribution is to begin a spin that BYU was able to strongarm the Big-12 and get its wish list fulfilled. I would almost think he was reading your posts today about Utah agreeing to not get paid by the Pac-12 until the 1st year of Romney's second term in office!

I did find "joining right away" rather appealing, but that pesky rule at West Point made marriage illegal until I had graduated. To think my mother in law thought me thoughtful and conscientious when I insisted on washing my own laundry when I was staying at her house during the 2 years we were engaged........
