BYU may be a little worry about joining a conference that seems to have a good amount of liars and back stabbers. Of course, really the only back stabber is leaving the conference for the SEC and it was revealed today that have been planning to do it for the last year and a half even though their president sent this letter out last year...

Texas A&M will remain in the Big 12 Conference

    June 14, 2010

    To The Aggie Family:

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of speculation as Texas A&M University and several other institutions in the Big 12 Conference evaluated our athletic affiliations. At the end of the day, 10 of the 12 schools in the Big 12 including Texas A&M have determined that the conference was definitely worth saving due to our collective strengths in academics, national competitiveness, geographic fit and overall financial value.

Throughout the conference evaluation process, I was encouraged by something that I already knew Texas A&M is incredibly strong and the passion of our current and former students, as well as our faculty and staff, is unmatched anywhere. As evidence, I have been overwhelmed by thousands of emails, phone calls and Facebook posts from Aggies in support of any of the three options we were considering remaining in the Big 12, or joining the Southeastern Conference or Pac-10 Conference.

Let me be clear: This decision was made in the best interests of Texas A&M and was not made in haste. As I mentioned to the Faculty Senate Monday afternoon, our top consideration was the demands placed on our student-athletes, in terms of academics, time away from the classroom, and the overall level of competition. There were also many other factors considered, including maintaining Texas A&M's strong foothold in the State of Texas and preserving our natural athletic rivalries, many of which date back more than 100 years. And, ultimately, by remaining a member of the Big 12, we were able to more than double our financial return to the levels being offered by other conferences.

I understand that some Aggies are disappointed, but I am confident this decision will serve Texas A&M well in the years to come. As Athletic Director Bill Byrne and I stated numerous times throughout this process, our hope and desire was for the Big 12 to continue. And we both agree that this is an exciting, new day for our league.

I appreciate all of your feedback and thoughts on this important issue. As Aggies, I know that you will rally around our Texas A&M student-athletes as they train over the summer and begin Big 12 competition this fall.

    Thanks again, and Gig Em!

    • I am sick of Chip Brown. He's a Texas shill when they need something to get out. And the rest he says is BS to drive OrangeBloods subscriptions.

      • Calm down. I'm looking at this objectively, dispassionately, from the outside in, from Pac 12 country. Let me reassure you that if BYU doesn't join the Big 12 it will be because the Big 12 doesn't want BYU. That will be the only reason. Viking as usual is full of dung.

I've stopped caring what Chip Brown tweets. Same approach for every other alleged BYU insider says or tweets. As a result, Last week was a good week for me and I expect next week will be even better.
Chip Brown makes money by having people sign up for information on his website. He has a reason to entice people to follow him and evenutally want to sign up. He's obviously phishing for new subscribers so putting out shocking information would fall in line with his business plan.

I'm still worried our admin screws this pooch, but Chip has no investment in that worry.

He also makes money by getting people to listen to his radio show every morning and selling ads to stripper joints in Austin. The stuff he puts up on OBs drives listeners to tune in.

(Disclosure: I don't pay for his website.)

            • From ESPN Bottom Line:

Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin says he expects school to join SEC "shortly". Loftin says, "I think the legal issues are basically gone," referring to four Big 12 schools that had retained rights to possibly sue.

                  Let's review history:

                  1. Out of virtually nowhere, I said in august to watch for a big move. The NEXT day, espn reported aggy was leaving

                  2. Then I said BYU was invite in hand. Why? Because, gee, I knew.

                  3. Then I said stop the presses that there was a discussion of the Pac16. Lo and behold, that very afternoon, OU started talking publicly about leaving.

                  4. Then, order seemed to be restored and it sounded like OU was coming into line again and my buddy told me he was certain there would be an announcement day before the UT game. That was wrong and I went into exile.

                  5. I PMd lebowski that UT was pulling out of any Pac16 discussions while espn, chip and others were still reporting deals being made. Days later, kumbaya.

                  6. I'm back now, why? Because The chip brown stuff about BYU dragging it's feet is true and it's so monumental that I can't stay quiet about it. It's pretty infuriating as one who has devoted a lot of time, energy and money to think that a SMALL faction of general authorities who don't believe there should be a major athletics program should be able to overrule DECADES of sacrifice by many to see this happen. They are well intentioned but just not right in this regard.

I've not once spoken with anyone from BYU...not a soul. I spoke with an ex player yesterday but that's it.

But I can imagine there is a significant amount of frustration and attempts to educate the administration and more importantly, a few GAs who don't understand that while appearing to be going back on our word with the WCC, the reality is that by not joining the big 12, BYU will have effectively scammed every person who has every given money to the program to help it reached national prominence. It would be the single most insulting thing BYU and the church have ever done to the supporting alumni base.

I wish I could understand you and your need to be ad hominem in most things you write. Why do you insist on acting as such? It can't be a fun way to live.

                  • SeattleUte is a tough guy to figure out sometimes. I wonder if he even knows what his real opinion is.

For example we have this gem way back on the very first page of this thread:

As I've stated, my personal strong preference is BYU goes to the Big 12.
Only to be followed up a little over a year later with this terse statement:

I want to see them wither away and die, saying over and over again in a dissipating voice and finally whispher, "We are the greatest, we are the greatest."
Was one of these posted under the influence? What happened in the last year to make him change his opinion so drastically?
