They went for Arkie against all logic, so why not Utah too?

Both are nonstarters. But they at least had Jerry Jones one their side going after Arkansas. Who is the godfather who would broker a deal to sway Utah?

BYU doesn't want to waste an OOC game on Utah once we are in the Big 12 and Texas is BYU's buddy. Texas will make it happen.

Katz says WCC gets it

BYU’s hierarchy does like being with like-minded, faith-based universities in the WCC that can understand its mission. The Cougars do seek stability and their new conference does offer it up.

But if the Cougars did want to leave, they wouldn’t get held up by the WCC. The league fully understands that BYU may want to join a major football conference, but the WCC isn’t fretting an imminent departure. The conference is pumping up BYU’s admission with higher-profile members Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s and moved its tournament semifinals away from Sunday for the Cougars.

Neinas says he's old fashioned when asked about expanding conference footprint. Then kind of danced around before saying "I don't know".

Asked about what the ideal number would be...he said the Big 12 seems to think that number is 10. Then said you notice Jim Delany was quiet during this latest round of expansion so he looks like he's perfectly happy with a dozen.

Asked whether they will consider the possible collapse of a conference like the Big East when inviting schools of if they will strictly look at what is best for the Big 12. Neinas didn't understand the question at first, and asked "you mean like if we invite TCU, it could collapse the Big East?" He went on to say in his role he is strictly looking out for what is best for the Big 12. Taking into account the collateral damage to other conferences is something the board will have to discuss.

Says he has not talked to anyone in the Big 12 about expansion other than they have informed him that they have an expansion committee. Everything else he knows is what he has read. So pretty much disregard everything I posted.
