If you listen to Stoops, he basically acknowledges he doesn't really believe what he's saying and has marching orders.

If not for how poorly played the OU hand is right now, I would have thought pac16 was a cinch but given how much they protest, I think Big12 sticks together and BYU is most certainly invited (again).
The entire conference seems populated by morans. OU doesn't assert itself and when it does it isn't taken seriously, Texas poisons its own well and in the process doesn't bother to figure out little details such as distribution for the LHN, Baylor is running around trying to drum up political interest when said political arm has already proven to be a bumbling and inept paper tiger, Mizzou is desperately trying to sell itself to anyone that would take them, and Kansas doesnt seem to realize that it has any muscle at all.

How did this conference fall into such a disarray? It seems like the schools dislike each other, there is no loyalty, there is no leadership or common vision, and nobody seems interested in changing any of it.

Let assume for a moment that OU goes to the Pac-12 and Texas somehow keeps the Big 12 together and the conference adds some good quality teams. Say that the Big 12 adds a team like LSU because the want to create their own network like Texas. Both Texas and OU are going after the same bluechipper. The parents of the bluechipper are not too well off but would like to see johnny's games. If johnny goes to the OU they and all of johnny's friends from home would most likely only be able to see the games in Norman. If johnny goes to Texas, however, then johnny's parents and friends would be able not only see all the games in Austin but a lot of the road games as well. Which school would Johnny most likely pick with the help of his parents? Of course, he would also get a much better education at UT-Austin as well. It would be a no-brainer.

          • Why doesn't the SEC invite OU? Is it because they would have to take OSU also?

If they are taking A&M it stands to reason they would want OU as well.

It's so sloppy that I'm starting to believe maybe the espn alliance is to get marquee universities to go indy

I haven't seen the terms of the deal so I don't know but I personally doubt that.

Your hypothetical requires LSU to leave the SEC and join the B12 and the kiss of death Texas Longhorns.

                  • From Chip Brown:

Sources tell Orangebloods.com the SEC vote to admit A&M Tuesday was contingent on B12 schools waiving right to sue.
So what did the Big 12 schools get in return?

Is there a smoke-filled back room somewhere?

It sounds like it must be each school individually. Baylor may still have some say in this.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Sounds to me like Baylor is finding out (or will find out in the weeks to come) that they weild less power than even they thought.

And I'll be dammed if I missed him up at the New Settlers Inn in Moundridge a few years ago. Great act. By the way, I heard him in an interview say he thought about giving the kids cherry vodka in the car in Coffeyville Kansas while returning from a gig somewhere.

Have you ever read David Woodrell? He's a Missourian who went to KU and later graduated from the Iowa Writers school up in Iowa City. Hollywood has turned two of his novels into movies, Woe to Live on (Ride w/ the Devil by Ang Lee) and Winters Bone. That guy really catches the spirit of rural poverty. Great read.

Baylor, ISU and KSU all might have something to say about A&M leaving.

Don't blame KU. We didn't start this mess. But everyone wants to finish it here and now. Either we get some commitments outta the Gooners and Nutless Bovines or we force the issue. Don't mistake being polite for lacking muscle. I expect shortly that BYU gets the guarantee it wants outta UT, the Dirt Burglars/Slavers to quit posturing and we all take a shot at Pitt/Louisville. If that fails, expect KU/Mizzou to package themselves for the best available offer.

Nobody is going anywhere! SEC just said 'yes' BUTTT... No thanks!

It was well known Baylor would sue so it looks like OU/UT just put on the best **** block in history with the PAC returning the favor after the SEC did it to them last year. Stoops well timed statement knowing the SEC meeting was on just put the cheery on top! Aggy is going nowhere! Now it is time to bring BTU and Airforce(?) in and be done with it all.
