Common ND opponents?Originally posted by Gaffords View PostDid you guys miss the three candidates on the list?
1. ND
2.BYU
3.PITT
Now let me throw another one in here when we first heard about you guys that we dismissed as a what/why?
4. Airforce
anything look familiar?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

ND has only played four other teams more times than it's played Pitt:Originally posted by Gaffords View PostThe only way Pitt is on there is because of ND... ND/BYU = airforce..
USC, Navy, Michigan State and Purdue.
I hope people don't think BC and Stanford are ND rivals. ND has actually played Air Force more than either of those teams.
I think the four games above are probably sacrosanct to ND. I'm not sure where the Michigan game falls, but they didn't play each other between 43 and 78 and they've skipped years since then.Part of it is based on academic grounds. True, Stanford isn't as important as the big four rivals or Pitt. But ND alternates years playing @Stanford and @USC. I'd imagine that's on purpose to guarantee one trip to California per year.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostND has only played four other teams more times than it's played Pitt:

Perhaps a new Big 12 would require that only 7 conference games are played. If Pitt and Air Force were thrown in the mix then ND could play them every year and also continue scheduling Navy, USC, Michigan State and Purdue. They'd have one game left over to schedule ooc. They'd still be playing the five teams every year that they've played the most all-time. Additionally, maybe a scheduling wrinkle could be worked whereby they could play Texas every year.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
