I asked the Utah Pig Bus to substantiate this claim repeatedly. Finally the dude slid into my DMs and put the issue to rest.

    • Dennis Dodd, the Rudy Giuliani of college football reporting. Dementia is no joking matter. The poor bastard.

Agreed. The research thing has become my most effective tool for needling my Ute friends.

Can you name one thing Dodd has claimed that turned out not to be true? Now multiple sources are reporting that Colorado has been talking to the B12 for a long time. This should be shocking to nobody but that hack TJ Altimore - Colorado would be crazy not to explore all options.

                      • If I were to make a prediction now based on whatever info/rumors are out there and with best efforts of weighing the credibility of the sources, I think Colorado and Arizona announce pretty soon that they're going to the Big 12. The Big 12 then goes aggressively toward establishing themselves as the undisputed strongest in basketball by rounding out this wave of expansion with UConn and Gonzaga. That creates a 16 team league for all sports except football and 15 for football for now. It also would make a western quadrant of BYU, Colorado, Arizona, Gonzaga to help with scheduling and travel. The B1G takes UW and OU. Utah stays put/stuck in a PAC that grabs some other teams from G5 to get back to 10 or 12. Only then is when they take the best TV deal available to them based on the teams they have.

I'm not endorsing any specific plan, but the reports that talks and meetings have been happening with UConn and Gonzaga seem pretty credible. I get the reluctance for adding UConn from a football centric mindset for sure. But I think the conference is at least seriously considering making a move that makes them undisputed king of the hill in basketball as a unique advantage in a landscape that many see evolving into the B1G and SEC trying to pull away from the rest. The power and revenue of the NCAA basketball tournament is still pretty important, and this I think would be a slap back particularly at the B1G and to grab more revenue from a different angle. The SEC doesn't care about basketball so much. I don't know if I agree or not, but I can understand what they're probably considering.

Oh, I get the logic. I just don't think it is worth it. No to mention they are a geographic outlier.
