What if it is only for football only? I kind of like basketball in the WCC. It seems we have a fairly easy path to the NCAA tournament every year.

    • I would love to have a conference champ meet for track. I don't think not having one has hurt the track program at all, but it would be really fun and a great prep for regionals.

Well, you are way more confident than I am.

One thing I am confident about is that BYU high-level administration and the board of trustees do not view BYU Athletics and athletic conference membership through the eyes of a BYU football fan. I believe they have a very different viewpoint of athletics at BYU than the average BYU football fan, including myself, has.

Why would diluting the conference with 8 have nots help the conference stay a have?

Seems like 2-4 of the best is the best option

            Yep.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

              Yeah, that makes zero sense.

More inventory for a network deal and greater chances of a playoff berth (to stay P5 relevant). The problem is there is not enough quality teams out there.

Gonzaga is great but Kansas is just as good. Then you have Baylor and OSU who are perennially good in basketball. The other teams are hit or miss but at least they hit more than the bottom 2/3 of the WCC. Add in Houston and Cincinnati or Memphis and the B12 is a better basketball conference than the P12 by quite a bit.

                        • Bring on the Big XII. I'm over independence. I'm over being in limbo. I'm over the uncertainty. I'm sick of the only game that matters being Utah.

                          • If the Big12 agrees to stick together and they can keep a decent tv contract (it would certainly be better than BYUs current payout) the. I’d jump at the chance to join them. I’d love it since BYU would always pay close to me every year.

ive liked independence since BYU plays in Texas a lot but it’s obviously not as good as joining a decent conference. The MWC isn’t decent. The Big12 is a serious conference even without UT and OU. If they add BYU and three good teams from the AAC that would be the best case scenario.

                            • That Athletic article confirms what many already suspected - BYU makes the most dollars and sense from any of the possible Big12 additions. That is encouraging, but doesn't necessarily mean they'll select BYU to join.

Join if an offer is made. If I had to bet, I would say they are only adding 2 teams, which will fulfill their media contract requirements in the short-term without reducing the per-team payouts. At the most, I think they could add 4 to go to 12 teams. They're not going to split the (more limited) pie any more ways than that.
