  • Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Statement win over Oklahoma prove [sic] UH belongs in Big 12
              No it doesn't.

                  • T. Boone gives his expansion picks...

                    T. Boone Pickens’ picks for Big 12 expansion – Houston and SMU

During a Saturday news conference at Boone Pickens Stadium, Oklahoma State donor T. Boone Pickens identified Houston and SMU as his favorite candidates for Big 12 Conference expansion.

Houston, BYU and Cincinnati most commonly get mentioned as viable candidates, but Pickens expresses support for SMU. Pickens’ primary residence in Dallas is located only a few miles from the SMU campus.

“If I had my choices, the two I would prefer would be Houston and SMU,” Pickens said. “I’d rather take a Texas team over BYU and Cincinnati. I’m an Oklahoma guy living in Texas. You know that. But I’ve lived in Texas longer than I have in Oklahoma. I do live in Dallas, and I have a granddaughter on the equestrian team at SMU. My daughter graduated from SMU.

SMU has had like 4 winning seasons in the last 27 years.

But RMoney tried to set him straight...

Pickens said he received a call from former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a BYU graduate.

“I said, ‘Mitt, are you calling me about politics?’ He said, ‘No, expansion in the Big 12. I want you to support BYU,’ ” Pickens recalled. “We had a nice visit, and he realized I don’t have any influence in it.”

I'm sure RMoney calls T. the fucking Boone Pickens all the time on non-political things. I'm also sure the Big 12 expansion has nothing to do with politics, especially with RMoney getting involved...purely apolitical.

I think you guys are misreading Pickens. I think his statement is doing as much as he ever would for BYU. He is essentially saying he supports Houston, but that he isn't too worked up about it. He largely removes himself from the equation, publicly, by saying he has no influence over the vote, and he undermines the legitimacy of his supposed support for SMU by saying it is close to his house and his little granddaughter plays with ponies there. This just strengthens the perception that his position is not based in sports or in politics and can be ignored for practical purposes. So while he doesn't come out as a mormon lover, he does largely remove himself from the process. Thats about all Rmoney could have asked for.
                        PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Right, like I said, totally apolitical.

I didn't say it was apolitical. My point is that he is cooperating in a political way.

I didn't misread it, and I understand what you are saying and I agree. I was commenting on the fact politicians are getting involved. I suppose it's unavoidable, but in the event a less deserving team gets in over a better candidate because of it, it will suck. If we get left out CB will be a mushroom cloud...

If the final decision is made before 9/24 and if we get left out, a BYU fan will likely do something very stupid like jump on the field and tackle West Virginia cheerleader.
