Right, and i can see that. It is a fair example. I agree with surfah. That was simply flexing at the most opportune moment.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI was thinking of last year's "give us what we want or we might bolt to the PAC-16" drama. I have no other examples.
That Texas calls all shots is a myth. Listen to the Texans on this board..."they will be sorry if the Texas legislature gets involved.."...."Texas won't allow this or that to happen...." etc.
And after all that sound and fury, what happened? aTm is meeting ahead of the legislature, anyway and t.u. stuck in a conference on the verge of implosion. Hardly the position of someone calling all the shots. I think it is a reality check for everyone in Texas. aTm is going to still be little brother in the SEC and t.u. is desperate to hold the remnants together so it can properly house its other sports.
Anyhow, to your original question, I just don't think BYU can let the shadow of Texas or Oklahoma factor into this. That is assuming BYU is even on the table, of course.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

That is how I remember it but I could be wrong. I stopped paying attention once I knew BYU was not included in anything other than independence.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI think it was more of Texas telling the Pac 10 to give them what they want or they're staying.Dyslexics are teople poo...

It will take a lot more than ESPN can muster for BYU to go back on their word to the WCC.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostOf everything in this thread that sounds like the biggest glimpse of hope for BYU. Yeah, this is how I see it. Alpha dogs exist and the other dogs deal with it. Our key desire for freedom to broadcast via BYU-TV is allowed in the B12-2, so Texas' influence would work to our benefit.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostOther than forming its own network, I don't really see Texas doing more than a lot of gum flapping. The plan to showcase HS games was shot down quickly. And BYU already has it's own network so Texas isn't in the business of telling other schools to not do such.
What else has Texas done to impose its will? I realize that this is a popular recent meme, but almost always proferred by Texas fans (sips) or insecure Aggie. Texas is the alpha in that conference, followed by Oklahoma. That is the reality. It can't factor into the decision because it is the same reality in all BCS conferences with th possible exception of the Big East, which has no real football alpha.
If anything, texas willingness to allow BYU to keep its network is a plus, not a negative.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

BYU doesn't have to go back on their word. My understanding is that there is language built into the contracts with the WCC and ESPN that allows them to switch to a BCS conference if invited.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostIt will take a lot more than ESPN can muster for BYU to go back on their word to the WCC.
WCC knew ahead of time what the score is.

BYUDeepthrowt tweeted today for first time in a long time. Compared BYU fans who want to join big 12 to Lot's wife. I really hope he isn't somebody important. I have a deep fear that this is the prevailing attitude of those who matter (with no evidence to support that fear thankfully).

I think some BYU fans truly believe in the end the "true" church will prevail. Therefor given enough time, we will replace ND as the super independent.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostBYUDeepthrowt tweeted today for first time in a long time. Everyone will clamor to play us on our turf.
I also believe those who are most adamant about staying independent either watch the games on TV or buy the $15 tickets.
