(IOW, I can't listen/watch the conference and want to lean on you all for any reactions to the event itself.)

Says that this is a great opportunity for Utah. Looks forward to athletic competition, but looks forward to academic side of things as well. That part is important to him. Thinks we fit in well. "All the major innovation centers in the west" are now in the conference. Enhanced academic opportunities.

Notes our football record against the Pac 10. We belong.

Thanks Dr. Hill, who has been here "almost since the University was founded." One of the best AD's in the country. A quarter of our athletes made Deans Honor List. Highest APR we have ever had. Says that the without the banners outside the stadium that KW helped bring we would not be here.

Thanks student athletes past and present. In his conversations with Pac 10 presidents they take academics very seriously and they were an important part of the decision for Utah to join. Recognizes the governor who is present with his red tie on.

Remembers back to ESPN game day when the commentators kept calling us "Utah's University" and feel that this says it all. Introduces the governor.

My daughter when Gov. Herbert got to the podium: "Wow, he's really busy. His reading program just started."

"Today Utah is Utah's University." Recognizes Larry Scott. "These kinds of things don't just happen." Efforts of many went into it. Recognizes Arnie Ferrin to big applause.

"As we strive for excellence this is evidence that the University of Utah is on that path."

Utah is the original BCS buster. 2-0. Shocking to some, but not to us. Utah is the flagship University and the state invests a lot here and the people get a significant return. This provides great opportunities for not just the U but the whole state and increased exposure. Utah (the state) will be introduced to many who don't know it because of this.

President Young comes back to the stand.
