    Here is my ideal scenario:

With Utah staying in this new conference, it would be strong.

This whole latest discussion is stupid. If Utah gets into the Pac 10 it won't be the same program with the same prospects as it has been in the MWC. It will have many more resources. Moreover, it has access to recruits from California and Texas, etc. despite its small population--with outsized quantities of football prospects--just like Nebraska. Moreover, Utah has proven repeatedly that it can compete with the best of the BCS even from the Mountain West.

Any other observation is just bias and speculation. Human nature says try to scale Everest once you've done the next highest peak. Utah is living as it should. Talk about how it should want to stay in a weaker conference it can more likely win or dominate is lame.

I'm not suggesting Utah spurns the PAC to stay in the MWC. If the invite is there for the Utes, they obviously should take it. From my BYU fan perspective, I don't want the Utes to go. I want aTm to go to the PAC with the other 4 and then Utes stay and strengthen the MWC with BYU, TCU, BSU and the Big 12. That's what I want.

Who said I was talking about the Pac-10? BYU fans should hope he is knocking on the Big 12's door loud and clear. I just wonder if BYU is truly satisifed in the MWC where they are perceived to be the big fish in the little pond.

Just another thought. I wonder if Cal is still ticked about Holmoe's tenure as their football coach and thus another huge reason they wouldn't vote BYU in. Obviously it's religious bigotry but I wonder if that plays into the equation as well.

What impact would this have on the MWC Channel??? Would it be beneficial or bad? Are there any legal ramifications to changing it to the Big 12 Channel etc??

I bet Tom Cella is beating his chest big time right now. After being wrong for the past 6 months he is probably taking all the of the credit for this. When in reality it was common sense all along. Go back and read cougarboard circa 2004, the obvious expansion teams were always Utah and Colorado. It was never a secret.

What bitterness? I have no hard feelings at all, like I have said before nothing will change. Utah will go from being on average the 3rd best team in the Mountain West to the 5th or 6th best team in the pac-10. They will still not take any top LDS recruits that actually have testimonies from BYU, they will still only play in bowl games 20 out of their next 100 years of existence, and BYU will continue to win double digit games, win MWC titles, and beat up on the Pac-10 in the Vegas Bowl. The only difference is that the University of Utah will be putting more money in their pocket.

                          I've wondered about this.

I'm not silly enough to think that joining the PAC10 doesn't benefit Utah's recruiting. Ute coaches can say "we've been to and won 2 BCS games in the last 5 years, and now we have AQ status. Come play with us!"

I think Utah's recruiting has the chance to improve. We'll see how much.

However - now that they don't have a set game in Texas (at TCU) every other year - how does this effect their Texas recruiting? Does this reduce the number of kids who look at Utah, knowing that they won't be playing in-state where family and friends can come watch? OK - I shouldn't say "never". But without the built in schedule, it certainly isn't the same.

Along those same lines, what division will Utah be in in the PAC12? If they aren't in California fairly regularly (like they are with SDSU) how does that effect their Cali recruiting? I assume the Oregon & Washington schools wouldn't put up with no Cali games some years - so the same should be true for Utah.

                          Just curious.

Win MWC titles? You had a senior QB and a loaded roster of upperclassmen, had the two biggest fish on your homefield, and you couldn't bring home a trophy. Now you add another team that, by your own claim, has been the best non-BCS team over the last decade into the MWC, and you still think championships are going to roll off the assembly line?

What odds are you giving me that Utah only plays in bowl games once every five years in the Pac-10? I'm good for a grand that says you're too chicken to make that bet, or that you'll offer odds that aren't worth the price -- meaning you don't really believe your own words.

I was wondering the same thing about Texas. On SoCal, I have no idea how the conference works that problem.
                                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
