If Larry Scott was talking about B12/Pac merger and 2 BCS bids, I don't know why Pac 18 or 20 can't happen. Hell, keep the AZ schools in the old Pac and have 10 in each. The more the merrier. Why not? All of a sudden 1/18 is so thin a slice all this fretting about relative size of markets becomes less relevant. Besides, the Pac with all its allure and mystique can cut whatever revenue sharing deal it wants right now. What Utah has going for it is it fits all the criteria, and it IS in a vast unrepresented region. The Pac needs UTah for the arch of the footprint. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

A Chip Brown rumor in the works for SU...
If A&M goes to the SEC Utah could be the 16th expansion team according a rumor brewing on Orangebloods this morning. Chip Brown is working on the report but a "number of factors" could give Utah the last spot over KU. The rumor was posted by one of the mods who said Chip Brown will post the full story after his golf tournament this morning."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

hilarious!Originally posted by myboynoah View PostProbably correct. If aTm rejects the offer (unlikely I think), then Kansas is sitting there. We're talking Kansas. Naismith, Allen, Sayers, Chamberlain, Ostertag, five NCs (spanning the ancient and modern eras), a BCS victory three years ago, AAU membership, and already a BCS conference member and 69-year history of playing Colorado. So much of the talk since it became apparent that the Big 12 was going away has been lamenting the tragedy of Kansas' situation.Dyslexics are teople poo...

They are less screwed than BYU. BYU is no longer the plum that BYU once was for a variety of reasons and it's tough for BYU to be second fiddle to Utah at this historic time.Originally posted by oxcoug View PostSetting aside whether or not that's good or bad for BYU and if good primarily good for spiteful reasons or for more substantive reasons.....
Here's what seems to have to happen at this point for Utah to get into the PAC:
1. T A&M wld have to get an actual invite to the SEC
2. They'd have to decide to navigate all kinds of political problems to leave their Texas brethren and take it
3. If they did that then T A&M + Texas would have to fail in trying to persuade the PAC X that it should take Baylor as a replacement for T A&M
4. Failing that then the same parties would have to fail to persuade the PAC X to take Kansas over Utah (I think the buck stops at this one - the PAC would LOVE to have Kansas's hoops prowess, it's better academically than Utah and it's been improving in football).
The only way this can all work out for Utah from here, in my view, is if A&M really does both get the SEC invite AND decides to break off from the rest of the Texas crew (unlikely), then the PAC X outright refuses to admit Baylor (not impossible), then the Kansas politicos refuse to let Kansas leave K State (highly unlikely in the context).
I don't think it exudes much optimism when you have Holmoe in charge. He appears to be somewhat of a rookie compared to other colledge AD's. Most other AD's have been around the block and Holmoe has been 'home schooled' at BYU. Or perhaps he's just the puppet for the board of trustees. More a 'yes' man than a 'doer'.
All of that says BYU will get screwed more than Utah.........and Utah may still make out like a bandit.

The reasons BYU is not being considered for the PAC 10 have nothing to do with Tom Holmoe.Originally posted by Hallelujah View PostThey are less screwed than BYU. Utah is going to get what they want: doormat of the Pac10.

I don't think they'll ever be the doormat, unless the doormat is 4-5 teams thick. Washington, Washington St, Arizona St., UCLA, and Colorado are consistently pretty bad. They'll be somewhere in the middle of the current Pac 10 teams. With USC going on probabation, they might have a chance for the next couple of years.Originally posted by Viking View PostIf byu had a prayer in the Pac 10 (which it never has), it would be because of Tommy.

Washington is only temporarily bad and their rise back to power is JUST AROUND THE CORNER (every year you hear this battle cry) at which point WSU and the two Oregon schools will return to their rightful place of mediocrity (they have only had success because UW has been down due to unfair persecution and sanctions). St Jake is their salvation and will take them to the promised land.Originally posted by BlueHair View PostI don't think they'll ever be the doormat, unless the doormat is 4-5 teams thick. So say the pups
IMO the PAC whatever will be up for grabs the next few years and Utah could manage middle of the pac.
