I thought his point was that there were enough undefeated 2nd place teams to fill pages and pages of history books. Not that they were forgettable.

That was the one that I recalled that HL missed. Also I would say that outside of Utah, Washington, and Oklahoma, few remember 1984. Can you recall the MNC in 1986, 1992, 1997(without google)?

97 was Michigan and Nebraska. 92 was Colorado? I am also guessing 86 was Miami just because of the 30 for 30 I watched a couple of months ago pointed out there dominance during that era.

I don't think that is a fair assessment. I can see how one could come to the conclusion of picking either scenario. However, if you were to ask the players, I wonder which they would choose.

MNC is a generic term for a NC handed out by pollsters, regardless of the games. I chose 3 random years to see who could remember them, given that is the question at hand.
