I know. The rankings all have PSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin in there too.
Along with Cincy, I also don't get the UConn love. The Big East is a joke.
We all know the answer...teams from BCS conferences are just better.

FWIW, this was last season's preseason top 25, and only eight teams finished the year within four spots of that ranking: Florida (1 to 3), Texas (2 to 2), Alabama (5 to 1) Ohio State (6 to 5) Penn State (9 to 9), Virginia Tech (7 to 10), Georgia Tech (15 to 13), and Utah (19 to 18).
Three more teams finished within nine spots: LSU (11 to 17), Oregon (16 to 11), and BYU (20 to 12). The remaining 14 teams were off by 10 or more spots.
Um...so are you gonna punch that "preseason #3" into the computer rankings?
Let me know how that works.
here is how it works: it is better to start ranked really high than to start ranked low or not at all. Maintain that high ranking for the initial BCS rankings in October by winning out.
last season, BSU was close to the title game, wound up in the BCS, and it started out ranked 15 or 17 or thereabouts.
if it starts the season #3 and wins out, it will be in the title game. Maybe not as the #1 seed, but in the top 2, sure that is very possible and likely.
You could be right, though. This high ranking might not be obviously good for Boise. They might be very upset and wish they were ranked lower.

No, BSU was not close to the title game. They were 6th. And guess what--if you change all of their human rankings to 1 (the only thing a preseason ranking of 3 can help), they still don't make it. They end up 3rd.
The problem is that the computer rankings had them around 20th, in a year when they beat a pretty highly ranked Oregon team. The situation this year will likely not be any better. And it won't even matter if they kill everyone, as none of them look at MOV either.
But maybe you're right--maybe the computers are reading the preseason polls.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

As I posted earlier in this thread, BSU is playing a 3 game schedule instead of a 1 game schedule this year. If they win all 3 it will push their computer ranking.
People do love to hate those at the top.. If they run the table and win it will do a lot this year to rebuild their reputation after the loses in the past..

Beating Oregon soundly did help..
If they run the table, we unfortunate college football fans will have to sit through yet another patheticly matched up national championship game that includes Ohio St. We will once again see Alabama (insert Boise St. TCU and 10 other teams here as well) run them off the field and show once again that Little 11 football is a joke.
Not sure I would say they are at the top either. It has been a few years since that has happened. I just can't forget about how badly they embarrassed themselves in the BCS championship game the last 2 times they were there.
I am sure the BCS feels extremely embarrassed to have put the 10th or 11th best team in college football those years in the championship game. Those games were sorry.
They've had one top 25 finish in any poll back in 2004. And before that 1978. I am a fan of Ken Niumatalolo (really only because he's Hawaiian and LDS) but I don't know how you can argue they're turning perenial top 25.
It isn't your fault, as a dyed in the wool liberal you are hard wired to overrate and overestimate the performance, impact and overall effeciency of full time government employees. You can't help yourself and despite trying to convince yourself that stealing from the rich is now stealing from the rich and in opposition to one of the 10 commandments, your true colors are still your true colors.
While it makes me intensely jealous as my alma mater's football program looks inept next to Navy, Navy has a great service academy program. It, however, is not even close to being a legitimate top 25 team. Army is getting better and it wouldn't surprise me if all 3 SA's get bowl invites this winter. I think AF will be the cream of the crop. Navy has gotten lucky the last few years beating AF teams that I actually thought were better than Navy.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.
